Chancellor of Austria's visit to CDNIS

CDNIS was honoured to highlight the innovative teaching and learning taking place on its campus during a special visit last Friday by The Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, Mr. Sebastian Kurz. Save the Date: Stanley Cup Visit

Hockey fans might want to keep the morning on Wednesday, September 12 open as CDNIS will host the coveted Stanley Cup. Making its first ever visit to Hong Kong, we are excited to welcome the Stanley Cup, along with its "keeper", Philip Pritchard. Please RSVP here if you would like to attend this event. We also have a special offer for our CDNIS community who plan to attend the NHL game between the Calgary Flames and Boston Bruins on September 15 in Shenzhen - a 10% discount! If you have not yet purchased your tickets, please email fiona@chinahockeygroup.com by Wednesday, September 5 and provide the code CDNISNHL and she will process your ticket order. New Initiatives: Student Information Management System

The school is rolling out a new student information management system called Veracross. Some of the modules are already up and running and we will introduce the new Parent Portal in the next week. Parents will receive an email to their school account inviting them to sign in. Keep an eye out for the email.

Friday Dress Down Day

The first Dress Down Day of the school year in the US and LS is Friday, September 7. The theme is House Colours and it is free (no donations required). Students need to ensure that clothing worn is appropriate for school; shorts which are torn, frayed or very short should not be worn.

Parent Volunteer Bus Passes

We will have a system in place for handing out parent volunteer bus passes soon. For now, if you are volunteering at school and would like to take the bus, please email KCM two working days in advance, and let them know which bus you would like to take.

Proof of Stay

In accordance with regulations of HKEDB and HK Immigration, new and returning students must hold a valid HKID card and/or a valid passport with authorised residency status to be eligible for a place at CDNIS. Visitor visa holders are ineligible for a place at CDNIS. Please submit proof by email or in person to the Main Office. Please contact the Admissions Department if required.

Join the MakeX Robotics Pre-Competition

CDNIS is proud to host the regional MakeX competition for Hong Kong International schools. We are running a pre-competition on Saturday, September 22 from 10am-3pm for CDNIS students. To join, form a team with 2 students plus a parent or teacher as mentor. You can take this opportunity to collaborate with your child and have an engaging day with robotic fun. Click here to sign up.

CTY Information Session

Center for Talented Youth, Johns Hopkins University, conducts the oldest and most extensive university-based talent search worldwide by offering above-grade level testing for Grades 2 through 8. CTY is hosting an upcoming information session at CDNIS on Friday, September 7, from 2:30pm-3:30pm. Please join us in the LLAC Theatre. Please email CTY for further information, and RSVP before Monday, September 3.

CDNIS College Clinic

The CDNIS US Guidance Team are offering a College Clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm-5pm for any member of the CDNIS Community. For more information, please contact Rob Aldridge or Scott Atherton in the US Guidance Office. All consultations will be confidential and offered on a first-come-first-served basis (for Thursday 4-5, please contact Scott Atherton to arrange a time).

Drop off unwanted mugs at the Maple Cafe

Help us reduce the use of paper cups at the Maple Cafe by bringing your own reusable cup or donating your unwanted mugs for others to use. Are there just a few too many coffee mugs in your over-crowded cupboards? If so, we will take them. Mugs can be dropped off at the Maple Cafe. Help us reduce our non-recyclable waste by doing your part.

Lower School Curriculum Nights

We will host the Lower School Curriculum Nights in the evening on Tuesday, September 11 (Grades 1-3) and Thursday, September 13 (Grades 4-6). More details to follow in the next Flash.

Sign-up to Perform in LS Assemblies

Calling all musicians! Students in the Lower School are invited to audition to perform a short solo or small ensemble in their grade level assemblies. For more information and to sign-up, please fill out the form found here for Prep, Grade 1-Grade 3 or Grade 4-Grade 6. Sign-ups are first come, first served!

Lower School Friday Assemblies - Date Changes

Please note the assembly dates in the CISPA calendar are not correct and homeroom teachers will contact their class parents directly, notifying them of any changes. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Lift Pass

Please be reminded that unless students are issued a Lift Pass by the school nurse or a staff member, they are not to use the lift at any time. Parents, please support this school policy by asking your child to take the stairs. 

Learning Spaces

Please be reminded that seating in lift lobbies and in the hallways are considered learning spaces. Parents and guardians are not to use these spaces during the teaching day. Instead we welcome you to visit our newly renovated bistro on the 6/F. 

Upper School News

Grade 11 Parent Information Night

Grade 11 parents! DP Coordinator Brian Hull will hold an information evening on Tuesday, September 4 from 6:30pm-8pm in the LLAC Lobby for Grade 11 Parents. A bus shuttle is provided from Admiralty MTR at 5:30pm and Wong Chuk Hang MTR at 6pm and returning to several locations afterwards. 

Upper School Curriculum Night

Experience what it is like to be an Upper School student during Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 6 at 6pm, which starts with a full assembly in the LLAC Theatre. Buses to this event pick-up at Admiralty at 5pm, also collecting at Wong Chuk Hang MTR Exit A at 5:30pm. Return buses depart from the school at 9:15pm to: Causeway Bay, Admiralty, Central Pier 3 and GPO. Wong Chuk Hang MTR station, Sham Wan Towers, Larvotto and South Horizons T15. 101 & 109 Repulse Bay Road, Stanley Plaza, 33 Tai Tam Road (Back Gate).

Elevate Education Parent Workshop (Grades 7 and 9)

On Monday September 3, Elevate Education will give presentations to all students in Grades 7 and 9 about Time Management strategies. That same evening, they will lead a follow-up workshop for Grade 7 and 9 Parents to review those strategies and provide tips for how parents can encourage effective study habits at home. The Parent Workshop will run from 6pm-7pm in the LLAC theatre. Parents who would like to come can register here.

MYP Communicator Website

The MYP Communicator Website is a great resource for Grade 7-10 parents to find out more about the MYP programme. Information provided includes three videos highlighting key features of the MYP, particularly useful for new US parents.

Uniform Update

The Uniform Shop reports that some of the new skorts are now available. The larger sizes are have arrived, and smaller sizes are expected to be here in approximately 2-3 weeks. Please contact the Uniform Shop to confirm the sizes that are currently available.

PSAT registration

Registration for students wishing to sit the PSAT on Saturday, October 13 is now open for Grade 10 and 11 students. Grade 9 students may register beginning Monday September 17 on a space-available basis. Registration will close on Friday, September 28. Please complete this form and return it with payment to Ms. Fung in US Guidance. 

Columbia, Duke, Northwestern, Princeton, and Vanderbilt presentation

On Sunday, September 9 from 1pm-3pm at Diocesan Boys School, representatives from Columbia, Duke, Northwestern, Princeton, and Vanderbilt will hold a public presentation for interested HK students and parents. Advanced registration is required here

Ivy League Fair

The annual Ivy League Fair will take place on Friday, September 28 from 7pm-9pm at St. Paul's College in Sai Wan. Interested students and parents are invited to come and speak with alumni from the Ivy universities plus Stanford. See this link for more info, and register at this site

Discover USC Event

The session will be conducted by the USC Admissions Team on Sunday, October 7 from 2pm-4pm at the Conrad Hotel. They would like to share USC’s unique learning opportunities, student life, application procedures and academic choices. Alumni and Office representatives will also answer questions. International Library Day needs you

This year International Library Day takes place on Tuesday, October 9. The CISPA Literacy Committee is looking for volunteers to host country tables at the event, showcasing the beloved books and authors from that nation. Come and represent your country!

Outreach Initiatives Committee Meeting

The Outreach Initiatives Committee provides guidance and funding for student, faculty or parent-led charitable initiatives. We are looking for parents with similar passions or experience to join us! Our first meeting is on Tuesday, September 4, starting at 8am in Central.


SUP with CISPA now on Sept 5

CISPA's standup paddle board morning has been rescheduled to Wednesday, September 5 from 10am-12pm. You can still join in this fun, active way to enjoy Hong Kong’s beautiful beachside waters. No experience necessary.

CISPA Parents’ Social Lunch

It’s dim sum time. Parents are warmly invited to the Aberdeen Marina Club on Thursday, September 20 starting at 12 noon for a delicious dumpling lunch with CISPA. Bring a friend so we can order more food!
