School is closed

The EDB has announced that all schools will be suspended today, Monday, September 17. School is closed today for students and staff.

Stanley Cup Visit

Making its first ever visit to Hong Kong, CDNIS welcomed the Stanley Cup on Wednesday, September 12. Staff, students and parents were thrilled to get up close and personal with the most famous trophy in sports. To read more about the event and watch a video recap, please visit our website.

New Initiatives: Student Information Management System

The school is rolling out a new student information management system called Veracross. All parents received an email to their @CDNIS parent email account last week inviting them to sign in. Parents are encourage to visit the Parent Portal FAQ before logging into the new Parent Portal.

CDNIS Mobile App

The CDNIS app is here! The CDNIS mobile app provides vital information and notifications on the go. Please download it via the App Store or Google Play by searching for "CDNIS" to keep up to date with what is happening at school, including urgent messages such as school closures due to weather. While the app has an Absent Form, please note that the form is not fully operational and parents will be asked to submit all absent requests via the Parent Portal in the coming weeks.

No School - have you marked your calendar?

Just a reminder there is no school for students on Tuesday, September 25 (Day after Mid-Autumn Festival), Monday, October 1 (National Day of PRC) and the Mid Term Break takes place October 15-19, while Monday, October 22 is a Professional Development Day for staff. Please mark these dates on your calendar. The full school calendar is also available in the Parent Handbook and on the main school website.

Project Based Learning Coffee Morning

Join LS Principal Helen Kelly for a coffee on Wednesday, September 26 in the LLAC lobby from 7:30am-8:30am to learn more about Project Based Learning.

CDNIS & Sustainability: Monthly Energy Update

From mid-august to mid-September, CDNIS has reduced it's energy consumption by 3% when compared to the same period in 2017. Despite the heat and humidity, we've shown ourselves to be an increasingly sustainably-minded community! See details here.

Application Deadline for 2019/2020 School Year

Please note the application deadline for Pre Reception to Grade 2 has been brought forward to Tuesday, October 2, 2018 for 2018/2019 school entry. Admissions assessments will begin in December for applicants who apply on or before October 2. Please contact the Admissions Office via email or by phone (2240 6363) for further assistance or information.

Parent Volunteer Bus Passes

If you are volunteering at school and would like to take the bus, please first contact your child's homeroom teacher to sign up for a volunteer bus pass. After this, email KCM two working days in advance and let them know which bus you would like to take.

Parking on Nam Long Shan Road

Please note that there is no parking available on Nam Long Shan road. On US curriculum night, police officers were issuing tickets to cars parked on Nam Long Shan road. If you are coming to school for an event in the evening, please consider using public transport, including the buses which the school arranges.

Halloween Celebrations

We will celebrate Halloween as a school on Friday, November 2. Dressing up is a cherished tradition at CDNIS, it's never too early to start planning your costume!

Join the MakeX Robotics Pre-Competition

CDNIS is proud to host the regional MakeX competition for Hong Kong International schools. We are running a pre-competition on Saturday, September 22 from 10am-3pm for CDNIS students. To join, form a team with 2 students plus a parent or teacher as mentor. You can take this opportunity to collaborate with your child and have an engaging day with robotic fun. Click here to sign up.

Lower School News

Smart Watches

Please reconsider sending your child to school with a smart watch (i.e. Apple Watch, Doki, etc). As with mobile phones, we aim to limit the distractions to learning caused by these devices. CDNIS staff will instruct students to keep smart watches in their bags and/or lockers. These devices are not to be used at any time during the school day.

Dress Down Day

The next Dress Down Day will be held on Friday, September 21. The cost to dress down is $20, with donations going towards Room to Read. The theme is World Peace Day, so students should wear white tops, bottoms can be coloured.

3-Way Learning Conversations

Grades 1-6 will host 3-Way Learning Conversations on Thursday, September 27 and Friday, September 28. Please note there will be no regular classes on these two days. To learn more about 3WLCs and how to sign up, please click here. Signups begin on Monday, September 17.

Upper School News

Grade 7-12 Leadership Retreat

This retreat will take place on Saturday, September 22 at school. Participate in a variety of experiences led by experts sharing skills and stories about how to be a changemaker in one's community with leadership, empathy & action planning. Sign-up here by this Thursday, September 20.

Friday Dress Down Day

This Friday, September 21 is a Dress Down Day. The Upper School theme is black and white. All students who choose to dress out of uniform will be required to pay $20. All funds will be donated to student-nominated charities. Note: All students need to ensure that clothing worn is appropriate for school; shorts which are torn, frayed or very short should not be worn. 

Victoria Shanghai Academy University Fair

VSA will hold its annual University Fair on Tuesday, September 18 from 6:30pm-8:30pm. They have kindly opened their fair to CDNIS students and parents, so please do feel welcome to attend! For a list of attending universities, visit this site

Gr 9-12: Brown, UPenn public presentation

Senior admissions officials from Brown and UPenn will give a public presentation on Wednesday, September 19 from 5:30pm-7:00pm at Diocesan Boys School (DBS). For more information and to register for the event, visit this site.

University of Calgary Information Session

The University of Calgary is hosting an Information Session for students interested in four year undergraduate bachelor degree programs. This event will be held on Sunday, October 21 from 3pm-4pm. For more information and to register, please visit the event website.

EduCanada Fair

On Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, the Consulate General of Canada in HK and Macao will hold its annual EduCanada Fair at the Excelsior Hotel. For details and more information, visit the event website.

University of Chicago - Public Event

We are happy to advise that reps from UChicago are running a public event (as they are only in HK for a very short period) and have extended an invitation to CDNIS student and parents. The details are: UChicago Information Session in Hong Kong, Saturday, September 22 at 2pm. It will be held at Chinese International School, 1 Hau Yuen Path, Braemar Hill, North Point. Ivy League Fair

The annual Ivy League Fair will take place on Friday, September 28 from 7pm-9pm at St. Paul's College in Sai Wan. Interested students and parents are invited to come and speak with alumni from the Ivy universities plus Stanford. See this link for more info, and register at this site


LIGHTS//OUT private boxing class for CDNIS parents

Calling all vendors for the Family Fun Fair!

Do you have a product or service that CDNIS families would enjoy or appreciate? The shopping area at the CISPA Family Fun Fair is the place for you. Booth spaces are limited and go very quickly, so make sure to apply as soon as possible. The application period closes on Friday, October 5.

SUP with CISPA again at Stanley Beach

You asked, so we delivered! By popular demand, CISPA will hold three more stand up paddleboard mornings for CDNIS parents on Thursday, September 27, Thursday, October 11, and Thursday, October 25. No experience necessary, and beginners welcome!

Clean out your closet for the FFF Vintage Sale

Too big? Too small? Out of fashion? Give it to CISPA. We will take your unwanted clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories and sell them at a fabulous Vintage Sale booth at the FFF. Drop donations off at the Main Office Reception desk from 8am-3:30pm daily until November 9.

Projects supported by the Outreach Committee

The CISPA Outreach Committee supports projects that have a service, charitable or environmentally conscious element. Here are three projects that CISPA funded recently that are contributing to our local and global community. Interested in joining this charitable arm of CISPA? The next committee meeting is Wednesday, October 10.

Help feed those in need in Hong Kong

As part of their mandate, the CISPA Outreach Committee connects CDNIS families with opportunities to volunteer in Hong Kong. This month, help distribute food to needy individuals. Children five years old and up are welcome to join with a guardian, those above 15 can join without an adult. 

CISPA Parents’ Social Lunch

It’s dim sum time. Parents are warmly invited to the Aberdeen Marina Club on Thursday, September 20 starting at 12 noon for a delicious dumpling lunch with CISPA. Bring a friend so we can order more food!

International Library Day needs you

This year International Library Day takes place on Tuesday, October 9. The CISPA Literacy Committee is looking for volunteers to host country tables at the event, showcasing the beloved books and authors from that nation. Come and represent your country!
