Stanley Cup Visit

Hockey fans are eagerly anticipating Wednesday, September 12, as CDNIS will host the coveted Stanley Cup. Making its first ever visit to Hong Kong, we are excited to welcome the Stanley Cup, along with its "keeper", Philip Pritchard. Please RSVP here if you would like to attend this event. Event details will be emailed to those who have signed up. Game on!

New Initiatives: Student Information Management System

The school is rolling out a new student information management system called Veracross. All parents will receive an email to their @CDNIS parent email account this week inviting them to sign in. Parents are encourage to visit the Parent Portal FAQ before logging into the new Parent Portal.

CDNIS Mobile App

The CDNIS app is here! The CDNIS mobile app provides vital information and notifications on the go. Please download it via the App Store or Google Play by searching for "CDNIS" to keep up to date with what is happening at school, including urgent messages such as school closures due to weather. While the app has an Absent Form, please note that the form is not fully operational and parents will be asked to submit all absent requests via the Parent Portal in the coming weeks.

First Week of Season 1 ISSFHK Competition Done and Dusted!

The T-Wolves Season 1 kicked off last week with our volleyball teams taking the plunge into the ISSFHK league. Our U14, U16, and U20 Teams all had successful forays in their competitions. The coaches had high praise for their athletes for the way they applied themselves during practice and gave it their all during games, with all teams showing true Timberwolves Spirit! Post-game photos on the Timberwolves Website.

71st Hong Kong Speech Festival - Registration open

LS and US students interested in participating in the 71st HK Schools Speech Festival must complete either the duo form, or the solo form and submit them, along with payment to Mrs. Kimberly Butler (LS) or Ms. Jessy Po (US). Fees must be paid by cheque to CDNIS. The deadline for submitting applications is Thursday, September 13. For more information regarding fees for duo and solo performances, please access the festival syllabus.

Parent Volunteer Bus Passes

If you are volunteering at school and would like to take the bus, please first contact your child's homeroom teacher to sign up for a volunteer bus pass. After this, email KCM two working days in advance and let them know which bus you would like to take.

Parking on Nam Long Shan Road

Please note that there is no parking available on Nam Long Shan road. Last Thursday on US curriculum night, police officers were issuing tickets to cars parked on Nam Long Shan road. If you are coming to school for an event in the evening, please consider using public transport, including the buses which the school arranges.

T-Wolves Rugby Recruitment!

Rugby season is about to get under way and T-Wolves are looking for more boys to join the U14 Rugby Team. All levels of experience are welcome. Please have your child to email Mr. Shortt if interested. He will also be able to answer any questions you have. 


CDNIS Water Polo Practice Recap

The first water polo training session was held last week, and all students had great fun. The students showed good understanding of the game and great skills. If you would like to join Water Polo, please email Darren McHugh for more information.

Join the MakeX Robotics Pre-Competition

CDNIS is proud to host the regional MakeX competition for Hong Kong International schools. We are running a pre-competition on Saturday, September 22 from 10am-3pm for CDNIS students. To join, form a team with 2 students plus a parent or teacher as mentor. You can take this opportunity to collaborate with your child and have an engaging day with robotic fun. Click here to sign up.

Proof of Stay

In accordance with regulations of HKEDB and HK Immigration, new and returning students must hold a valid HKID card and/or a valid passport with authorised residency status to be eligible for a place at CDNIS. Visitor visa holders are ineligible for a place at CDNIS. Please submit proof by email or in person to the Main Office. Please contact the Admissions Department if required.

CDNIS College Clinic

The CDNIS US Guidance Team are offering a College Clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm-5pm for any member of the CDNIS Community. For more information, please contact Rob Aldridge or Scott Atherton in the US Guidance Office. All consultations will be confidential and offered on a first-come-first-served basis (for Thursday 4-5, please contact Scott Atherton to arrange a time).

Drop off unwanted mugs at the Maple Cafe

Help us reduce the use of paper cups at the Maple Cafe by bringing your own reusable cup or donating your unwanted mugs for others to use. Are there just a few too many coffee mugs in your over-crowded cupboards? If so, we will take them. Mugs can be dropped off at the Maple Cafe. Help us reduce our non-recyclable waste by doing your part.

Lower School Curriculum Nights

3-Way Learning Conversations

Grades 1-6 will host 3-Way Learning Conversations on Thursday, September 27 and Friday, September 28. Please note there will be no classes on these two days. To learn more about 3WLCs and how to sign up, please click here. Signups begin on Monday, September 17.

Sign-up to Perform in LS Assemblies

Calling all musicians! Students in the Lower School are invited to audition to perform a short solo or small ensemble in their grade level assemblies. For more information and to sign-up, please fill out the form found here for Prep, Grade 1-Grade 3 or Grade 4-Grade 6. Sign-ups are first come, first served!

University visits this week

University representatives are starting to visit CDNIS! Visits take place in US Guidance unless otherwise noted. While intended for students, parents are welcome to attend as well. There are 24 different universities on campus between Monday, September 10 and Friday, September 17. Please see this open calendar for dates and schools. USA liberal art colleges "Mini-Fair"

As noted in this week's Flash, we have a busy week of university visits, including some of the top U.S. liberal arts colleges (LACs). On Tuesday, September 11 during lunch, we have nine such LACs, including the deans of admissions from three of the Claremont Colleges in CA (Scripps, Pitzer, and Harvey Mudd); also Hamilton, Skidmore, Bucknell, Simmons, Sarah Lawrence, and Washington & Lee. This visit will take place on the 3/F by the gym. Don't miss this great opportunity!

University of Chicago - Public Event

We are happy to advise that UChicago are running a public event (as they are only in HK for a very short period) and have extended an invitation to CDNIS student and parents. The details are: UChicago Information Session in Hong Kong, Saturday September 22 at 2pm. It will be held at Chinese International School, 1 Hau Yuen Path, Braemar Hill, North Point. US Science Parent Coffee Morning recap

If you were unable to attend the US science coffee morning on Monday, August 27, you can view the presentation and script to learn more about the curriculum. 

Uniform Update

The Uniform Shop reports that some of the new skorts are now available. The larger sizes are have arrived, and smaller sizes are expected to be here in approximately 2-3 weeks. Please contact the Uniform Shop to confirm the sizes that are currently available.

PSAT registration

Registration for students wishing to sit the PSAT on Saturday, October 13 is now open for Grade 10 and 11 students. Grade 9 students may register beginning Monday September 17 on a space-available basis. Registration will close on Friday, September 28. Please complete this form and return it with payment to Ms. Fung in US Guidance. 

Ivy League Fair

The annual Ivy League Fair will take place on Friday, September 28 from 7pm-9pm at St. Paul's College in Sai Wan. Interested students and parents are invited to come and speak with alumni from the Ivy universities plus Stanford. See this link for more info, and register at this site


Calling all vendors for the Family Fun Fair

Do you have a product or service that CDNIS families would enjoy or appreciate? The shopping area at the CISPA Family Fun Fair is the place for you. Booth spaces are limited and go very quickly, so make sure to apply as soon as possible. The application period closes on Friday, October 5.

Save the date for Lit Blitz!

Grab a pumpkin and your pyjamas, it's time for Lit Blitz! A three-week celebration of books and reading is just around the corner, from Monday, September 24 to Friday, October 12. Special events include the CDNIS Book Fair, a visiting author who loves math, International Library Day, and a really really big pyjama party.

Help feed those in need in Hong Kong

As part of their mandate, the CISPA Outreach Committee connects CDNIS families with opportunities to volunteer in Hong Kong. This month, help distribute food to needy individuals. Children five years old and up are welcome to join with a guardian, those above 15 can join without an adult. 

CISPA Parents’ Social Lunch

It’s dim sum time. Parents are warmly invited to the Aberdeen Marina Club on Thursday, September 20 starting at 12 noon for a delicious dumpling lunch with CISPA. Bring a friend so we can order more food!

International Library Day needs you

This year International Library Day takes place on Tuesday, October 9. The CISPA Literacy Committee is looking for volunteers to host country tables at the event, showcasing the beloved books and authors from that nation. Come and represent your country!
