Changing School Buses in the PM: Starting August 17

Students registered for the school bus service may switch buses to accomodate afterschool activities starting Tuesday, August 17. Starting tomorrow, KCM will accomodate afterschool bus changes for students in Prep to Grade 12. In order for students to switch buses, parents must fill in CDNIS 2021/2022 - Dismissal Bus Change Request Form no later than 10am the day of the switch (but 3-days in advance is preferred). Each bus change requires one form. Further details can be found in this letter from KCM.

Change in Bus Numbers and Campus Departure Locations

Some bus numbers and departure locations from campus have changed. For example, bus #5 which used to depart from the 9/F is now bus #15B (Lower School) and departs from the 9/F and bus #38 (Upper School) and departs from the 7/F. Please refer to email sent to your family over the weekend by KCM and update your child accordingly. Over the coming weeks, KCM will keep a close eye on all routes and may make adjustments including arrival/departure times and pick-up/drop-off locations due to on-going traffic conditions and other logistical needs. Please contact KCM if you have any questions.

No Private Vehicles on Campus

A reminder that for safety and efficiency, with only exceptions for Early Years students, staff, and students with ambulatory issues, no private vehicles (including taxis, Uber's, etc) are allowed in the school's turnarounds, parking spaces and driveways. Students are encouraged to use the city's public transportation systems and/or the school bus service. Police will ticket vehicles which stop along Nam Long Shan Road and may resort to preventing private vehicles from accessing the road altogether. Please refer to the email Head of School Jane Camblin sent to all parents on August 12.

2/F Entrance Arrival and Dismissal Times

The 2/F entrance will be open for students and staff to enter/exit the campus at the following times.

  • LS arrival: 7:10am-7:45am
  • US arrival: 8:10am-9:10am
  • LS dismissal: 2:20pm-3pm
  • US dismissal: 3:50pm-5:20pm

Students must tap their student cards when entering/exiting the campus via the 2/F. If students do not have their card they must use the 9/F entrance. Due to on-going construction next to the staircase, students and staff are asked to be extra careful if using this entrance.

Daily Temperature Check in Parent Portal

In accordance with EDB/CHP guidelines, parents are asked to enter their child’s temperature in the Parent Portal each day before they depart to school. Here are some instructions on how to do this for our new families. Click here to see how to add the Parent Portal shortcut to your iPhone. Thank you for your cooperation.

Reporting Student Absences in Parent Portal

If your child will be absent from school, please let the school know via the absence form in the Parent Portal. Upper School News

Vaccination or Regular Testing Requirements

The EDB has made it very clear to schools that vaccination rates for staff and students must be at a certain level if schools are to begin or continue operating a full day schedule. Over the next weeks, the school will be given more specifics from the EDB on what this means for us, but the message and the direction is clear: if we want a full school experience for CDNIS children, including sports, arts, assemblies, clubs, gatherings, events... the higher the vaccination rate, the more likely we are able to do so. Please have your child vaccinated as soon as possible if you have not done so already.

Transition Years New Parents Orientation

New parents in Grades 6 to 8 are invited to join Dr. Tim Kaiser, Upper School Principal and Ms. Nathalie Millette, Vice Principal for Transition Years to an orientation session on Zoom on Tuesday, August 17 at 4pm. Maple Cafe and Cafeteria: Lunch Menus

Upper School students may buy snacks and lunch from the Maple Cafe and cafeterias. Students are encouraged to use an Octopus card for payment. Students may also bring food/drinks from home but are not permitted to order from outside vendors or have food dropped off. Food and drink may only be consumed in designated areas. Please take a moment to review the menus for August 16 to September 3: 6/F cafeteria menu and 12/F cafeteria menu. Students in Grades 6 and 9 will eat lunch in the 12/F cafeteria while all other US students will eat in the 6/F cafeteria.

Save the Date: Curriculum Nights

The Curriculum Night for Grade 6-8 parents will take place online on Wednesday, August 25, and for Grade 9-12 parents on Thursday, September 2. Details are forthcoming regarding log-in details, schedule and format.

PE School Uniforms: Transition Years

In Grades 6 and 7, students should wear the PE uniform on the days they have PE scheduled; students in Grade 8 will have the choice to wear their PE uniform or their regular uniform and change into their PE kit for this class. Grade 6 students with a house PE top from last year may wear the same top this year rather than buying a new shirt in an effort to support environmental sustainability. Because PE students have PE class 4 times per 6 day cycle, parents may find it easier to purchase additional PE shirts and shorts.

Upper School Google Classroom Guardian Email Summaries

By Wednesday, September 1, parents in the Upper School will be invited, via their CDNIS email accounts, to receive email summaries about your students activity in Google Classroom, for each course. In email summaries, you can review: missing work (at the time the summary was sent), upcoming work, and class activities posted by teachers.
