Chinese Studies Parents Coffee Morning

The Chinese Studies Parents Coffee morning will be held at the LLAC Lobby from 7:30am - 8:30am on Tuesday, September 12. Director of Chinese Studies Penny Pan will give a talk about the CDNIS Reception-Grade 12 Chinese programme and answer questions from parents. Coffee and pastries will be served! No sign-up is needed, just drop by the LLAC after you've dropped off your children.


Application Deadline for 2018/2019 School Year

Please note the application deadline for Pre Reception to Grade 2 has been brought forward to Saturday, October 14, 2017 for 2018/2019 school entry. Admissions assessments for the aforementioned grades will begin in December of the preceding school year for applicants who successfully apply on or before October 14. Please contact the Admissions Office via email or by phone (2240 6363) for further assistance or information.


Fever Free Policy

CDNIS strictly enforces the Fever Free Policy, as recommended by the Centre for Health Protection. Therefore, students who are sick or feverish should not be in school whether or not they are wearing a mask. Pre Reception to Grade 2 students should be fever free for 48 hours before they can resume school. Grade 3 and above students should be fever free for 24 hours before they can resume school. Please note that for students who are not sick and choose to wear a surgical mask to school as a preventative measure (allergies, immune disorders), our school staff will not be expected to monitor the correct wearing of their mask. Please contact the nurse with questions.


No School - have you marked your calendar?

Just a reminder that there is no school for students on Friday, September 15 (PDD for staff), the Mid Term Break that takes place October 2-6, and Monday, October 9, which is another PDD for staff. Please mark these dates on your calendar.


Parenting the Digital Native- a workshop for parents of students G3-10

CDNIS welcomes Dr. Mark Gandolfi from the St. John's Cathedral Counseling Team Wednesday, September 27 at 7pm-8:30pm in the LLAC Lobby. This parent workshop will focus on how to parent children in a digital world. The Internet is a vital part of our world and an important tool in education and research shows young people are spending an average 44.5 hours per week online. Golf Day - Register Now

Last year's Golf Day proved to be a great success and we're pleased to announced that it's coming back again this year! The CDNIS Annual Golf Day will be held at the Shek O Country Club on November 21, 2017. Entrance to this event starts at $5,000 for individuals and $25,000 for teams of four. Interested parties can click here to register for the event. Details can also be found on our school website. Enjoy a great afternoon of golf and all skill levels are welcome.


CDNIS Official Merchandise On Sale

Stay dry from the recent inclement weather by purchasing either the CDNIS pop-up umbrella ($150) or the golf umbrella ($200)! Other official merchandise are also on sale, including the ever-popular CDNIS water bottle and the extremely useful universal charger. To make your purchase, fill in the attached order form and hand it to the 9th floor General Office. 


ID Cards For New Parents

New parents are reminded to pay a visit to the Library in order to get their photos taken for their ID card. For safety and security reasons, parents are required to wear their ID cards at all times whenever they visit the CDNIS campus.  


New Uniform Update and Timeline

We are excited to share that we are in the process of reviewing our current uniforms and proposing some possible updates. A Uniform Committee has been meeting since February 2017 to start this process. We are currently preparing a parent and student survey and will share it in an upcoming Flash and at Curriculum Nights. The initial roll out of new uniforms is April 2018 with full changeover starting in August 2019. Click here to see the timeline for the Uniform rollout.


CISPA - Upcoming Used Uniform Sales 

Get your used uniforms. Sales will be held in the 9/F lobby on September 13 from 5pm-8pm, September 22 from 8am-12noon, and October 20 from 8am-12noon. To donate uniforms, please leave them with the Security Desk at the 9/F. Uniforms that are not in re-saleable condition can also be donated, to be used by departments within CDNIS for ongoing projects.

CISPA Meditation Classes for Parents

Join us for a parent meditation session. Under the guidance of alumni parent Sharon Leng, who is a healing therapist and wellbeing specialist. Sessions are held at various locations at the school. On Friday, September 29 we will do our practice in the LLAC Lobby. Interested participants should contact Lucia Del Vita to RSVP. More details can also be found on the CISPA website.

Lower School Curriculum Nights

3-Way Learning Conversations

3-Way Learning Conversations will take place September 28 and 29 for all Grades 1 to 6 students. Click here to read a letter from the Lower School Senior Administration about the purpose and structure of these ​reviews. Lower School New Uniform Survey

As announced last week, we are in the process of reviewing our current uniforms and considering new materials and designs for new future uniforms. We want to hear your opinion. Please take the short survey and stop by the Uniform Committee table at the upcoming Curriculum Nights or Pre Rec to Prep Parent Presentation (September 27) to see some uniform options and cast your vote on material preference. Thank you!


Friday Fun in the Forum is Here!

Grade 1-6 Students: Do you like to sing? Dance? Tell jokes? Come on out and be a part of the PA Department's Friday Fun in the Forum (FFF) performances on Dress Down Days from 11:10am-11:35am (G3-G6) and 12noon-12:20pm (G1-G2) in the Forum. To participate, Grade 3-6 students must fill in the sign up form with their details. Grade 1-2 students will sign up with Ms. Benusa. FFF performances are for students only. The first FFF on DDD is September 22. All participants must donate $20 to perform with proceeds going to the DDD charity sponsored that week. Not able to participate this time? No worries! More FFF on DDD performances will happen throughout the year, so start practicing!


CISPA International Dress Day - September 12

Students are welcome to come to school in clothes representing their culture/national dress on International Library Day, Tuesday, September 12. It's a wonderful opportunity for Lower School students to see how diverse the CDNIS community is. Click here for more details.

Upper School News

CDNIS Alum Talk on Studying in the U.S. - Today!

Today at 12:15 in the Guidance office, CDNIS alum and recent Brown University grad Chris Shum will visit CDNIS to speak with interested Grade 10-12 students about studying in the U.S., studying at Brown, and studying Computer Science. Chris is about to move to New York City to begin a new position at an enterprise software company, and has kindly offered to speak with interested students about his experiences.


Grade 11 Parent Info Night

Grade 11 parents, mark your calendar! CDNIS will hold an information evening on Tuesday, September 12 for Grade 11 parents to outline the year ahead. Buses: 5:30pm - Pick up from Admiralty MTR Outside Exit A and 6pm Exit A2, Wong Chuk Hang Station Public Transport Facilities (Exit A2 located on Heung Yip Road). 8:15pm drop off to Wong Chuk Hang Station, CWB (Golden Dargon), Admiralty, Pier 3 and GPO.

Gr 10: InterQuest Assessment

This Wednesday, September 13 during Blocks 1 & 2, Grade 10 students will sit the InterQuest Career Assessment. This is a 2.5hr assessment (with breaks) that helps students to explore their career interests and how they fit their natural aptitudes. There is no need for any preparation or studying, and students will only require their laptop to be fully-charged.


Brown University and University of Pennsylvania

On Monday, September 18 from 6:30pm-8:30pm, German Swiss International School (GSIS) will host a public presentation by Brown and UPenn for Grade 10-12 Hong Kong students and parents. Parking is limited so shuttle bus service will transport participants to Central following the presentation. To register (required), please complete this form.


University of Calgary Public Presentation @ Sunday, September 24

The University of Calgary is hosting an Information Session on Sunday, September 24 from 3pm-4:30pm. The talk will take place at the Alberta Government Hong Kong Office, Room 1004, Tower Two, Admiralty Centre, 18 Harcourt Road. Please RSVP at this link.


CDNIS Panel Presentation on U.S. Women's Colleges

CDNIS will host a public presentation on U.S. women's colleges, Tuesday, September 26 from 7pm-8:30pm in the LLAC lobby. Grade 9-12 students and parents are invited to come and learn about the unique learning opportunities available to women at these outstanding small liberal arts colleges. The MYP Communicator is the website which hosts information and updates about what is going on in the Middle Years Programme at CDNIS.
