Parent ID Badges

Please remember to wear your parent ID badge when at school - including weekends. To help in better identifying people when they are on the campus, staff, parents, guardians and visitors will also be given a special coloured lanyard to accompany their ID card. Stop by the 9/F office to collect your new lanyard the next time you are at CDNIS.

Guardian ID Badges

Guardian ID badges are available for collection from the library. Any guardians who still need to have their photo taken, can stop by the 9/F office on Friday, November 10 from 2pm-3:30pm. Families which require a guardian badge must fill out this form before their guardian has their photo taken. Passes can be collected from the library one week after a photo has been taken.

Student Pick-Up Cards

All parents whose children are in Pre Reception to Grade 1 should have received two student pick-up cards. Starting Monday, November 6, anyone who is picking up a Pre Reception to Grade 1 child from the school or off the school bus will be required to present a Student Pick-Up card. If a parent/guardian does not have the card when collecting a child, they will be asked to provide photo identification. Further details are in David Baird's letter.

Project Innovate Parents Coffee Morning

Roll-up your sleeves and get ready for some hands-on learning. Please join us for our Project Innovate Parents Coffee in the LLAC Lobby from 7:30am-8:30am on Tuesday, November 7. Take part in the Robotics Workshop led by Viv Fung, Darrell Sharp and Makky Fung. Please RSVP here.

Poppy Drive

Remembrance Day is coming up and CDNIS will commemorate this historic day on Friday, November 10. We will take time during the day to remember those families who have been affected by war. Poppies will be distributed on Friday to students and we will also be collecting money to support elderly ex-service personnel in Hong Kong who are struggling financially and in need of financial and medical assistance.

Class of 2018: Early Offers to UK Universities

US Elite Level College Admissions

We are always looking for opportunities to provide additional support and guidance to our students and parents as they navigate their way through the college admissions process. We are delighted to welcome to CDNIS in late November, Mr Jim Wickenden, former Princeton University Dean of Admission and founder of Wickenden Associates, and Ms Nancy Kanach, recently retired Senior Associate Dean/Director of International Programs of Princeton University.  For more information regarding this visit and opportunities to meet with Jim and Nancy, please click here​.

Attention Grade 3-11 Parents: Pathways to Success Evening

The Upper School (US) Guidance "Pathways to Success" presentation on Thursday, November 9 @ 6:30pm in the LLAC. During this evening, counsellors will outline the US Guidance programme and discuss goal setting, academic planning and service, and extracurricular opportunities related to universities and careers. The presentation is most relevant to US Parents, but interested Gr. 3-6 parents are also welcome. Please click here for registration.

Timberwolves Update

Congrats to the Timberwolves who brought home multiple championships from ISSFHK. Over the weekend, our SEASAC Volleyball and Football teams travelled to Singapore (VB) and Bangkok (FB). For a full summary of their results go to the Timberwolves site. Season 1 coming to an end means Season 2 try-outs are this week. Here is the schedule for all Season 2 teams and tryouts.

Tickets for the Upper School's production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee go on sale Monday, November 13 and are $100 each. Performances will be November 30 and December 1 at 7pm. Please note this show may not be suitable for Lower School students due to mature content.

Win Tickets to the US Musical and More!

Submit your words (real or made-up) with funny definitions (even better if they relate to CDNIS or Hong Kong) here by November 20 for a chance to win tickets to the musical or other prizes. For example: Word: Octopus. Definition: Large tentacled sea creature... or... a means to ride the MTR, buy noodles or get a 10-minute haircut.

Save the Date: Christmas Cheer with Senior Admin

Parents are invited to join our Senior Leadership Team on Monday, December 4 for some Christmas cheer. The event will be for parents only (no children please). Venue (in Central) and time TBD. Watch this space for RSVP details next week.

CDNIS Appathon

Want to change the world through technology and turn your big ideas into an app? Fill in this form to join the CDNIS Appathon! Mentors will be assigned. All apps built will be submitted to AppJamming, an Asian competition and Technovation, a world wide competition to encourage girls in coding. Deadline for app submission is January 22, 2018. Halloween 2017

Halloween on campus was once again a spooktacular event, full of ghastly faces, iconic figures and novel creations. Have a look at the fun had by all in this year's video!

Ordering School Lunch

Cafeteria menus and order forms are available on the CDNIS website under "brochures". Parents can order lunch by filling out the form and dropping it off, with payment, in the 6/F Cafeteria or by mail to CDNIS.

Parent Liaison Committee

This is the third year since the Board of Governors has re-established the Parent Liaison Committee (PLC). The PLC is a multi-stakeholder Committee, comprised of Governors, Parents, and School Administrators. The PLC serves as a communication channel between parents and the Board of Governors. To contact the PLC, please email parentliaisoncommittee@cdnis.hk.

Second Term School Tuition Fee Deadline

The 2017/18 second term tuition fee is due on Tuesday, October 31. Invoices are posted to the Parent Portal under NetClassroom>Billing. For any parents who wish to pay the tuition fee through direct debit arrangement, please take a moment to fill out this Direct Debit Authorization Form from HSBC. Any inquiries can be directed to our Accounts Department.

CISPA – Family Fun Fair: A Winter Wonderland: Tickets!

Join our Winter Wonderland at the Family Fun Fair on Sunday, November 26 from 11am to 4pm. Tickets are on sale via the following link. Only children over the age of 2 years need a ticket. The adults enter for free. The price is $120 ($150 at the door).

CISPA – Family Fun Fair: Donations Sought

Can you give a donation of prizes, big or small, for the Fair's games? The theme of the fair is Winter Wonderland, but any items that children may like are welcome. Please contact Sabrina MaguireAnita Shum or Grady Lam if you have suitable prizes.

Teaching and Learning Mathematics in the Lower School: Meeting the Needs of all Learners

Parenting Talk - Sensory Processing Disorder

Does your child find everyday tasks challenging? Are they distracted by touch/sounds/lights? Do they find it challenging to sit still for a short while? These are just some of the symptoms which might stand out to you. In this parenting talk on November 15 from 8am-9:30am in the LLAC, Lorena Kastner will provide an understanding of SPD and strategies for you to understand and assist your child. RSVP here.

Remembrance Day Assemblies

We will hold two Remembrance Day Assemblies at CDNIS on Friday, November 10. Grades 4-6 is at 8am and Grades 1-3 is at 9:40am. Seating for parents in the LLAC Theatre is limited to the balcony only.

Box of Hope

CDNIS is once again supporting the charity Box of Hope, which aims to provide educational and fun gifts for children in need throughout Asia. Collection Week for 2017 is November 6-10. A drop-off area will be set up in the 9/F Lobby. Please refer to this link for details.

University Visits This Week

The following universities will be visiting CDNIS in the near future. All visits will take place in US Guidance (5/F) unless otherwise noted. Universidad de Navarra Monday, November 6, 12:15pm; The University of Queensland  Wednesday, November 15, 12:15pm; University of Toronto  Monday, November 20, 3pm.

Attention Grade 7-12 Parents: Student Advisory Beach Day

On Friday, November 10, all US students will take part in our annual Student Advisory Beach Day. Students will travel with their grade levels to various south side beach locations where they will take part in fun team and community building exercises. Students received a permission form on Wednesday, November 1 and should have returned it to their Student Advisor Leader by now. Please remind your sun/daughter to bring a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle. Note: This is not an optional event. All students are expected to be present. Please contact Charlotte Nielson (Student Advisor Coordinator) if you have any questions.

Habitat for Humanity - Annual International Build Trip

Under a month to go until Habitat’s annual build trip! The trip will take place from November 29 to December 3, allowing students aged 15+ the opportunity to build houses in the Philippines and make a difference for those living in substandard housing.
