Save the Date: Christmas Cheer with Senior Admin

Parents are invited to join our Senior Leadership Team on Monday, December 4 for some Christmas cheer. It will be for parents only (no children please). The event will be held at Wahtiki Island Lounge @ 3/F, Sea Bird House, 22-28 Wyndham Street, Central (a block behind behind Mark's and Spencer) from 6pm-7:30pm. ASA Session 2 Registration

Get in on the action. Registration kicks off Monday, November 20. Check out our new classes including photography, and Reception gymnastics! The CDNIS ASA Programme is open to both CDNIS and non-CDNIS students. Visit the ASA website for all the details. Registration via the Parent Portal will close on Wednesday, December 13.


School Uniforms - Time to Update

The CDNIS school uniform has gone through a few minor changes over the years and we will once again be looking to revamp the uniform ahead of the 2019/2020 school year.  The planned changes are based on input from relevant stakeholders and will continue to reflect the current identity of the school. Project Innovate Parents Coffee Morning

Parents learned the joys of robotics through our wonderful student teachers during the recent Project Innovate Coffee Morning. Take a moment to see the fun had by all in this short video. Make sure you join us for our next hands-on Project Innovate Coffee Morning Tuesday, December 5 when we will explore the new Science and Innovation Lab on the 12/F. Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth - Missed the Presention?

To provide additional testing options for CDNIS students, Johns Hopkins CTY will offer the following paper-based School and College Ability Test (SCAT) session for students in Grades 2-8 at CDNIS on Tuesday, December 5 from 3:15pm-4:30pm. Fee: USD$156. Location: TBD. RSVP here.


Mindfulness and Wellbeing Parent Morning

"Let's Talk About Mindfulness" a presentation on Tuesday, November 28 from 8am-9:30am in the LLAC by Cathy Ziengs MBSR Teacher, Mindfulness Facilitator. Learn why mindfulness concepts and practices are being introduced to enhance well-being for students and teachers, and how can parents engage too. Please wear something comfortable. RSVP here.


US Elite Level College Admissions

We are always looking for opportunities to provide additional support and guidance to our students and parents as they navigate through the college admissions process. We are delighted to welcome to CDNIS in late November, Mr Jim Wickenden, former Princeton University Dean of Admission and founder of Wickenden Associates, and Ms Nancy Kanach, recently retired Senior Associate Dean/Director of International Programs of Princeton University.  For more information regarding this visit and opportunities to meet with Jim and Nancy, please click here​.

ISSFHK Champions

Congratulations to the Boys Senior Swim Team who were crowned ISSFHK champions last week! Check out the Timberwolves website for all the gold, silver and bronze details.


New Student Bus Passes

New bus passes for students who have paid for the school bus service will be issued this week and come into effect Monday, November 27. Passes will be distributed by homeroom teachers November 16 to 24. If your child takes the school bus but has not been given a new pass, please contact Tracia Yeung


Tickets Tickets Tickets

Tickets for the Upper School's production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee go on sale Monday, November 13 and are $100 each. Performances will be on November 30 and December 1 at 7pm. Please note this show may not be suitable for Lower School students due to mature content. Get your tickets on the LLAC website.


Yearbook Cover Contest

Our Yearbook Club is holding a school-wide competition for Yearbook Cover 2018. The title this year is "Year of the Dog". YThere will be a prize for the winner! Blocking of Emergency Vehicles

Recently, emergency services vehicles have reported cases of congestion along Nam Long Shan Road. While we always encourage students/parents to use the school bus service in order to reduce the number of private vehicles along Nam Long Shan Road, we understand that some families prefer to use private vehicles. We kindly ask that if you do drive, please do not block public driveways. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Fever and Mask Policy

CDNIS strictly enforces the Fever Free Policy, as recommended by the Centre for Health Protection. Therefore, students who are sick or feverish should not be in school whether they are wearing a mask or not. Pre Rec to Grade 2 students should be fever free for 48 hours and Grade 3 and above students should be fever free for 24 hours before they can resume school. Please contact the nurse with questions.


25th Anniversary Commemorative Book

This beautiful coffee table book tells the story of Canadian International School of Hong Kong's first 25 years, from the first campus on Eastern Hospital Road up through to today. Filled with lots of photos, it's an important keepsake for current families, faculty, staff, alumni, Governor's, Members - anyone who has been part of CDNIS. If you would like a copy, please pick up a copy from the 9/F office.

CISPA - Tree Trimming and Christmas Carol Sing-a-long!

Join us on Saturday, November 25 from 10am to 12noon on the 9/F to decorate the giant tree. There will also be a craft, a letter to Santa station and delicious home made goodies. And “spontaneous” Christmas carol sing-a-longs at 10:45am and again at 11:30am. Song sheets will be provided, we just need carolers!

Making Math Fun

Last week, CDNIS welcomed back Dr. Marian Small who worked with staff and parents all week on how to teach math more effectively. In case you missed her parent session, you can review Dr. Small's presentation here.


November 24 Dress Down Day

Our Lower School Dress Down Day theme this month is your future/dream job! The money collected will be donated to Kids4Kids. This is one of our house charities that help children reach their goals. They are focused on literacy development and youth empowerment.


Friday Fun in the Forum

Grade 3-6 Students: Do you like to sing? Dance? Tell jokes? Join the PA Department's Friday Fun in the Forum on DDD from 11:10am-11:35am. The next event takes place on Friday, November 24. Please complete the sign up form to participate. All performers must donate $20 to perform with proceeds going to the DDD charity sponsored that week.


Attention: Pre Reception AM and Reception AM Parents

Please note that Pre Reception AM and Reception AM students do not come to school on Friday, November 24. This is to allow for staff professional development and to be equitable for all students as the PM classes will not have school due to the early dismissal ahead of the Christmas Break on Wednesday, December 13.


Lower School Student Leadership Workshop

We are excited to offer LEAP 2018, (Leadership, Education and Action Program) on January 30 and February 5. Grade 4-6 students (including those who participated last year) who want to develop their leadership skills and interact with our House NGOs should apply. Students can find application forms at 9F Reception and the application deadline is December 1.

Upper School News

Habitat for Humanity - Annual Build Trip

We leave next week for CDNIS Habitat’s annual build trip! The trip will take place from November 29 to December 3, allowing students aged 15+ the opportunity to build houses in the Philippines and make a difference for those living in substandard housing. Internal University Deadlines

Just a quick reminder to students and parents that Friday, December 1 is the internal deadline for all university applications not yet submitted. The exceptions to this are Art & Design applications with a portfolio requirement and later deadline, and also Australian university applications.


University of Warwick Public Seminar

The University of Warwick is holding a public info session at the British Council at 7:30pm on Thursday, November 23. Seats need to be reserved and you can do so with this online form.
