Reminder: Tuition Deposit Refund Deadline

Just a reminder that if your child is not returning to CDNIS for the next academic year, you have until today (Monday, May 8 )to notify the school in writing in order to receive your full tuition deposit refund. Please contact the Accounts Department with any questions.


Parent Coffee Morning - Project Innovate

Learn more about a major initiative which will help set the direct of the school for the next 10 years. Project Innovate is a whole-school initiative which focuses on math, literacy, robotics, arts and more. Learn how CDNIS will help to shape the learners for the future on Wednesday, May 17 at 7:30am in the LLAC Lobby. Please RSVP so we know the numbers for catering.


Chinese Studies Parent Coffee Morning

Are you a new CDNIS parents this year? Are you interested to know about PYP/MYP/DP Chinese programmes? Are you wondering how your child will be placed for next year's Chinese classes? Please join Penny Pan (Director of Chinese) for the Chinese Studies Parent Coffee morning at 8am - 9:30am on Tuesday, May 16 in the LLAC Lobby. She will introduce the CDNIS Chinese Programme in details, and will be happy to answer any questions that you may have. New parents with children attending Prep - Grade 10 during the upcoming school year are welcome.


Human Trafficking – Make A Difference

Did you know human trafficking is not illegal in Hong Kong? Want to know how you can make a difference? Three students learned all about this topic during the PYP Exhibition. Please check out the SCMP article about the app the students designed.


Bus Registration Starts Later This Month

The 2017/2018 academic year will see Sun Bus Limited commence regular school bus services at CDNIS. Registration for the new services is set to commence later this month and parents are advised to monitor Flash for further updates.


Parental Volunteers - University Transition

The US Guidance Team are seeking parents with expertise in the following areas to give 45-minute info sessions to our departing grads during May 31-June 6: Practical Banking and Budgeting, Nutrition and Staying Healthy, Personal Relationships and other suitable transition topics. Green Week in Photos

Football Finals for both Boys and Girls Timberwolves Teams

Our fantastic football/super soccer - year continues! Our U20 Girls Team have gone through the ISSFHK season undefeated, we face HKIS in the finals this afternoon at Kings Park (KO 3pm). Our U20 Boys Team have also qualified for the Finals, their game is Wednesday May 10, PoKong Village at 4pm. No other team in history has played in a SEASAC Final + JingYing Final + ISSFHK Final ... until now!


Celebrate Elite Athletes and Nominate the Coach of the Year

CDNIS will host our Annual Athletic Awards on Monday, May 22 – LS (2:30-4pm) US (5-8pm). We will be celebrating a fantastic year of Timberwolves Sport. We also take the chance to celebrate athletes who have achieved at the Elite level, outside of our school Sports Programme. Parents are welcome to nominate HK representative or elite performers using this form. Parents are also encouraged to complete a nomination for the Coach of the Year.


Summer Programme Sign Up is Open

CDNIS Summer School has the reputation as the place to be! We're proud of the range of choices and excited about being the Hong Kong host of both the Vienna Boys Choir Summer programme (open to both boys and girls ages 8 - 17), Camp BizSmart direct from Silicon Valley (Ages 11- 16) and the Cambridge Summer School (Ages 15+). Check out the programmes here and sign up today! Summer Holiday Chinese Programmes in Taipei and Beijing

Activities that are available this year include the Taipei Language A Mandarin Immersion Programme on June 9-23 (for G4-11 Mandarin A / MHL students); Beijing Language B Mandarin Immersion Programme on June 9-23 (for G4-11 MFL / MSL students). Details can be found here.

The 2017-2018 Start of School Guide will be available in the coming weeks. Everything you need to know to get the upcoming school year off to a great start can be found in this guide. This year the guide is being combined with the Parent Information Handbook. The guide will be available on the main school website, Parent Portal and mobile app. Watch this space.


Summer Travels Postcard and Teddy Bear Adventures

Back by popular demand, it's the CDNIS Summer Travels Postcard and Teddy Bear Adventures! Last summer, the CDNIS Teddy Bear collected a lot of stamps in his passport over the summer - Norway, Abu Dhabi, Iceland and more! Wherever you are this summer, drop us a postcard at: CDNIS Summer Travels 2017, 36 Nam Long Shan Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong or take a picture (tell us where the picture was taken) and email it to us. We will post all the postcards and images on a BIG world map when school resumes.

Maxim’s Chef Station Special

Maxims will be hosting a "Chef Station" promotion throughout the month of May, which will see the caterer serve up a Japanese dish every week. This week for instance, features a delicious Japanese Beef Rice Bowl special. For more information about meal choices, check out this poster.

Lower School News

Application Deadline for 2018/2019 School Year

Please note the application deadline for Pre Reception to Grade 2 has been brought forward to Saturday, October 14, 2017 for 2018/2019 school entry. Admissions assesments for the aforementioned grades will begin in December of the preceding school year for applicants who successfully apply on or before October 14. Please contact the Admissions Office via email or by phone (2240 6363) for further assistance or information.


Make.Create.Collaborate

All LS students will participate in this community building event, celebrating creativity through visual and performing arts. May 11 and 12 in the LLAC lobby. Drum circle, giant knitting projects, sound wall, weaving and more! Parents are welcome to join us for the Closing Ceremony on Friday, May 12 from 3-4pm in the LLAC theatre, featuring the Beginning Band, LS Strings Ensemble, Recorder Girls and Treble Timbertones.

Rec to Prep Transition Parent Presentation

Curious about next year? Do you want to know more about your child's transition from a half day to a full day at school? The CDNIS Rec to Prep Transition Parent Presentation will take place on Thursday, May 11 at the Library Pit from 8am - 9am. Parents will learn more about how CDNIS is focused on making this transition as smooth as possible for each individual child and family. Hope to see you there!


Prep to Gr 1 Transition Parent Presentation

The CDNIS Prep to Grade 1 Transition Parent Presentation will take place on Friday, May 12 at 8am - 9am in the Library Pit. The Prep and Gr 1 teams along with administration and the PYP Coordinators have been planning this transition and are excited to share the plans for a smooth transition for each child. Macbook Info Session for Grade 3 Parents

Grade 4 students require their own MacBook as part of their learning journey. This is used to develop digital literacy, become real world writers/publishers, and to widen areas of inquiry and collaboration. Current Grade 3 parents are invited to join an information session on Tuesday, May 9 from 6pm-7:30pm in the Library to learn about how the laptop is used in the curriculum and the ordering procedure for 2017/2018 school year. Sign up here.


iPad Info Session for Prep Parents

Grades 1 and 2 students have been using their iPads for their online portfolio to share their learning journey. Next year the 1:1 iPad programme will be extended to Grade 3. Current Prep parents are invited to join an information session on Thursday May 11, from 6pm-7:30pm in the Library to learn more about how the iPad is used in the curriculum and the ordering procedure for 2017/2018 school year. Sign up here.


LS House Day

In order to build House spirit and identity in the Lower School, we are holding LS House Days in the middle Friday of each month. Students are asked to wear their PE uniform and house shirts, and at lunch time the cafeterias will be organized so that students can eat with others in their Houses. We look forward to our next LS House Day on Friday, May 12


Upper School News

Class of 2017 Valedictorian

Congratulations to Henry Jin who was selected by his peers as the Class of 2017 Valedictorian. Members of the Class of 2017 nominated their peers and following two rounds of voting, Henry was selected. Given the high standards of student leadership at CDNIS, this recognition is considered a great honour. We look forward to hearing Henry address his classmates at Graduation on May 26.


Communicating With Your Team Workshop Postponed

The "Communicating With Your Teen" workshop has received plenty of positive interest, but the majority of parents have requested that we offer it at a later date. Therefore we have decided to postpone this workshop to early in the new school year. Details on date, time and venue will be posted in the flash.


Attention Grade 10 Parents: MYP Celebration

Grade 10 students will celebrate the successful completion of the IB Middle Years on Friday, May 19. Students will be awarded their MYP Certificates followed by a night of wild dancing (students only)! Parents of Grade 10 students are welcome to attend. The parent portion goes from 6:30pm-8pm. Buses depart from Admiralty MTR Exit A at 6pm and Wong Chuk Hang MTR Exit A2 at 6:30pm. Return service also provided. A final bus for staff and students will leave at 10pm. Studying Medicine in North America

Prof. Peter Grantham (UBC) will be speaking to interested students and parents about graduate routes into Medicine in North America. Prof. Grantham has a very engaging and accessible style and has huge experience in teaching and working in Medicine in North America. This is a must attend for any parent/student interested in such a route. Please join us Tuesday, May 9 at 2:30pm in the Guidance Office.


Attention Current Grade 7 Parents

Please note that there will be some changes to the Upper School Timetable structure next year, including student choice regarding their Grade 8 Fine Arts course. Parents of Grade 7 students can watch this video to get details.
