Reminder: Tuition Deposit Refund Deadline

Just a reminder that if your child is not returning to CDNIS for the next academic year, you have until Tuesday, May 8 to notify the school in writing in order to receive your full tuition deposit refund. Please contact the Accounts Department with any questions.


The CDNIS-Pico Project - International Innovative Summer Camp Programme

This is an exciting opportunity for Grade 5-9 students to participate in a summer camp partnership programme with Pico Kids from Israel. CDNIS students will partner with 15 of the top Pico Kids innovators from Jerusalem in a one week intensive STEAM course July 23-31. Fill out this online application form by Tuesday, May 15 - only 15 places available, so be quick!


Summer School 2018

The CDNIS Summer School programme has been released. There really is something for everyone; Maths to Maker Space, Punching to Politics, Irish Sports to Inspirational Authors, Crafts to Cooking, Friendship Skills to Math Functions, Space and beyond. 2018/2019 Start of School Guide - Coming Soon

The 2018/2019 Start of School Guide will be available soon. Everything you need to know - uniforms, bussing, new student/parent orientation events and more - all these details are in the Start of School Guide. A link to the guide will be shared in The Flash. Watch this space.


Bus Registration for 2018/19

Parents are able to register their children for the bus service for the 2018/19 school year via the KCM website. The deadline for registering is Friday, May 18. Due to the change in bus service provider, all students intending to take the bus next year must register by May 18. Please note that bus routes are still being finalised, and may be amended depending on demand.


Parent Coffee AM - Chinese Studies Programme

Join us for our final Parent Coffee AM where Head of Chinese Studies Ms. Penny Pan will be on hand to discuss the Chinese Programme and take parent questions. The event will take place in the LLAC Lobby on Monday, May 14. Please RSVP here so we can get our catering numbers right.

Class of 2018: Offers to Universities

Parent Liaison Committee

This is the third year since the Board of Governors has re-established the Parent Liaison Committee (PLC). The PLC is a multi-stakeholder Committee, comprised of Governors, Parents, and School Administrators. The PLC serves as a communication channel between parents and the Board of Governors. To contact the PLC, please email Parent Liaison Committee using your @CDNIS parent email account.


Timberwolves Athletic Awards

All athletes who played on a TWolves team this year should attend the Athletic Awards on Friday, May 18, in the large gym. The Lower School Awards are from 2:30pm-4pm. The Upper School Awards Cocktail Hour is from 5pm-6pm with the Athletic Awards from 6pm-8pm. Parents are welcome to join our celebrations, please book your seat here. All details can be viewed on the TWolves website.


Coach of the Year - Nominations Open

Coach of the Year nominations are now open. We encourage parents to nominate a coach who has made a difference to a team/athlete; use this form to nominate an outstanding coach. This award doesn't have to go to the most successful coach, it goes to the coach who has made the biggest impact in terms of participation/enjoyment/success of team(s) in the Timberwolves programme.


Celebrating Athlete's Elite Achievements - opportunity to nominate

Parents are encouraged to nominate any CDNIS student for this award using this nomination form. The purpose of this award is to recognise achievement at an elite level for a CDNIS athlete who participates in a sport either within or outside of the CDNIS Athletics Programme. Elite Level should mean national representation (HK or other).


Timba Swim School

Registration for Term 1 will begin later this month. The Timba Swim School is open to both CDNIS and non-CDNIS students of all ages. There are lots of programmes to choose from including Learn to Swim Levels 1-8, Swim for Fitness, Pre Squad Swim Team and the Swim Team. GreenWeek 2018 wrap-up!

Culminating in a CDNIS team participating in the global City Nature Challenge that helped to propel HK to 3rd place out of 69 cities for the total number of plant and animal species found, GreenWeek 2018 (from April 23-28) was a busy one! This GreenWeek 2018 video provides a glimpse into the various events. Till next year!


HandsOnHK and their Serve-athon needs you

CDNIS is supporting Hong Kong’s community service week, Serve-a-thon, which sees 150 volunteer activities taking place across the city. Families can sign up for one of the activities as a fantastic way to introduce your child to service for poverty and hunger related issues: Saturday, May 12 @ Cheung Sha Wan, Kowloon, or Saturday, May 12 @ Sha Tin, New Territories.


CDNIS Switzerland Ski Trip CNY 2019

CDNIS returns to Switzerland! The Grade 4-12 ski/snowboard trip will run February 2-10, 2019. The adventure includes six full days of skiing/snowboarding (with pro instructors) plus a day of cultural experiences, including a visit to the Cailler chocolate factory. Our trip size is a maximum of 20 students and four staff. Please register your interest here. Summer Travels Postcard and Teddy Bear Adventures

Back by popular demand, it's the CDNIS Summer Travels Postcard and Teddy Bear Adventures! The last few summers, the CDNIS teddy bear has collected a lot of stamps in his passport. Wherever you are this summer, drop us a postcard at: CDNIS Summer Travels 2018, 36 Nam Long Shan Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong or take a picture (tell us where the picture was taken) and email it to us. We will post all the postcards and images on a BIG world map when school resumes in August.


No School on May 22

Just a reminder that there is no school on Tuesday, May 22, which is a public holiday due to Buddha's Birthday.


Development and Alumni Affairs Manager

The school is looking to hire the right person – possibly a parent – to be the Development and Alumni Affairs Manager. This person will be responsible for developing and implementing the school’s fundraising programme, including coordinating with various parent groups and companies so a successful fund can be initiated. Details, including the job description can be found on our employment website.


School Uniform Update

Thank you to the Uniform Committee for conducting a thorough, year long process from reviewing our current uniforms to the approval of minor changes in fabric and design. Here are the updated photos of the uniforms. While it was hoped some items would be available before the end of this year, minor design details are still taking place. New and old uniforms will be available in August for the 2018/19 school year. Students will be expected to wear new uniforms for the 2019/20 school year. 


CDNIS College Clinic

The CDNIS US Guidance Team are offering a College Clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm-5pm for any member of the CDNIS Community. For more information, please contact Rob Aldridge or Scott Atherton in the US Guidance Office. All consultations will be confidential and offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Tutoring Policy

Just a reminder that outside tutors are not permitted to tutor on the school premises. If you have any questions about the school's tutoring policy, please refer to page 63 of the Parent Information Handbook.

Shuttle Bus Service Ending

Due to the low ridership of the shuttle bus service between the Wong Chuk Hang MTR station and CDNIS, the service will be suspended at the end of the 2017/2018 school year. A full refund will be available for all un-used shuttle bus tickets starting next month. Details will be announced in Flash.

Attention AM Pre Reception and Reception Parents - No School

Please note Pre Reception AM and Reception AM students do not come to school on Friday, May 11. This only applies to the AM classes. Students in the PM sessions have school as normal.


1:1 Device Parent Info Meetings

Two 1:1 parent info meetings this year will be held on Monday, May 7. The Grade 4 1:1 Laptop parent info session (for current Grade 3 parents) is in the Library Pit from 8am-9am. The Grade 1 1:1 iPad parent info session (for current Prep parents) is in the Library pit from 9am-10am. Invitations have been sent out to parents. Another copy of the letters is available here for Grade 3 parents and here for Prep parents.


Old Electrical Items Collection

Makerspaces need items to tinker with. We are collecting the following items: toys, remote controlled, with moving parts, sounds or lights. Hand-held appliances, battery or electrical output. Please do not send in old phones, items with glass or corroded batteries, or tv/computer monitors. Please drop the items off in The Hive on the 12/F.


Final Friday Fun in the Forum - May 25

Grade 3-6 Students: Come on out and be a part of the PA Department's last Friday Fun in the Forum of the school year on Friday, May 25 from 11:10am-11:35am in the Forum. If you'd like to participate, please fill in the sign up form with your details. All participants must donate $20 to perform with proceeds going to the DDD charity sponsored that week.

Upper School News

Join the Water Polo Team

Looking for a new sport to try? Why not Water Polo?! Students should be able tread water in the deep end of the pool without any difficulty, be able to swim for 200m without a break (swimming standard should be minimum of ASA Level 8). There will be friendly and competitive competitions with other Hong Kong schools. These competitions will be for beginners to the sport and also those that are experienced. This course is for students in grade 7 and above. Sample sessions and try outs are happening this month. There will be an exhibition game on the last week of term (time and date to be announced). Contact Darren McHugh for more information.


Cornell, UChicago visit to CDNIS

Representatives from Cornell University and University of Chicago are coming to CDNIS to meet with interested students and parents. This is a great opportunity to meet directly with two of the top universities in the USA. The visit will take place on Tuesday, May 8 at 9:45am in the US Guidance office. CDNIS parents are welcome to attend as well. Please RSVP at this link to indicate your attendance.


Merrimack College visiting Guidance Office

Stop by Guidance on Monday, May 7 to learn about this fantastic American school! Parents are welcome. This session takes place from 12:15pm-1:15pm in the Guidance Office (room 510).


Grade 9 - 11 Exam Schedule (May & June 2018)

The Grade 9-11 Final Exam schedule is now available for students and parents to download. Further details about exams, including specific room locations, will be published in May.


Cornell and UChicago information session

Cornell University and the University of Chicago will hold a public information session on Monday, May 7 from 7pm-8pm (doors will open at 6:30pm). The event will be held at The University of Chicago Center in Hong Kong, Level 6, Cyberport 2, 100 Cyberport Road. No RSVP is needed.


Grade 12: Grad save the date, updates

The Class of 2018 Graduation is approaching! Grade 12 parents, please save the date of Friday, May 25, and note the new start time this year of 5pm. We will be sending occasional updates regarding Grad Week and preparations leading up to it; these will come to parents' CDNIS email addresses (name@cdnis.hk) so please do keep an eye out for these messages. 


OSSD Summer School Programme

CDNIS is offering students the chance to earn formal OSSD Grade 11 and 12 credits through an accelerated Summer School Programme (Math, English, Politics & Science). Students currently in Grades 10 and 11 are eligible to participate. All courses take three weeks and will run from June 12-29. The fee for CDNIS students is HK$13,000. Parents can find more details here and register by clicking here.


Cambridge Summer School

If your child aged 15-18 is free this summer the the Cambridge Summer School may be an excellent option. For more information, including course details and how to sign up, please visit the programme website. Registration is open now and filling up fast!


McGill Summer Academy

For the first time, McGill University will be offering a summer academy outside of Canada. This program offers learning opportunities for students aged 15-19 that foster curiosity about the natural, physical and social phenomena and prepare them for continuing learning at university. Programmes will run from August 1-6 from 9am-3:45pm.
