25th Anniversary Commemorative Book

This beautiful coffee table book tells the story of Canadian International School of Hong Kong's first 25 years, from the first campus on Eastern Hospital Road up through to today. Filled with lots of photos, it's an important keepsake for current families, faculty, staff, alumni Governor's, Members - anyone who has been part of CDNIS. Details on how to reserve your copy of this limited edition book will be available in Flash next week. Copies will be available in June.

Annual Giving Campaign

CDNIS has re-launched the Annual Giving Campaign, and is seeking donations, large and small, to help support programmes and new opportunities for the school's community. Click here to read a letter by iHOS David Baird, as he shares more details about the new initiative.

2017/18 First Term Tuition Fee Deadline

2017/18 first term tuition fees is due on June 30, 2017. Invoices will be posted to the Parent Portal under NetClassroom>Billing starting June 1, 2017. For any parents who wish to pay the tuition fee through direct debit arrangement, please take a moment to fill out this Direct Authorisation Form from HSBC. Any inquiries can be directed to our Accounts Department.

CDNIS Gets Social

Our social media channels provide plenty of videos and pictures of our vibrant school community. Check out the action from the MYP celebration, Grade 7-8 CAS Week Trips, Lower School Sports Days and Graduation! Our Facebook page has tabs for our Instagram and Twitter feeds alowing you to see all three channels on one site. Use the hashtag #cdnishk, #cdnisls or #cdnishkalumni. Speaker Request (Finance or HR)

The US Guidance Office would love to hear from any parent who feels able and willing to speak in a keynote address and/or workshop for the grad class around topics of budgeting/finance and developing a compelling resume. Sessions would be Wednesday, May 31. Please contact Rob Aldridge.

Sun Bus - Registration Now Open

Register your child today for the 2017/2018 school bus service. To help Sun Bus to properly plan for the required service and routes, parents MUST register their children for the school bus service before Friday, June 30, in order to guarantee seating. Please click here to register your child.

ASA registration for Session 1 17/18

Ready, Set... Register! Enrolment for Session 1 2017-2018 starts today. The Session 1 Brochure is available on the CDNIS App and the ASA Website. We are happy to announce Top Flight as our new basketball provider as well as new activities such as filmmaking, Drama/Musical Theatre for Upper School and computer coding for kids! Registration ends on Friday, June 16.

2017-2018 ASCCA Registration

Registration for the 2017-2018 ASCCA (After School Chinese Culture Academy) is now open. If you are interested in registering your child for the 2017-2018 ASCCA activities, including Chinese Orchestra, Chinese Choir, Chinese Dance and Chinese painting, please go to this link to register online.

1st Hong Kong Canadian Scout Group

Calling for new members! Are you looking for a little adventure? Then join SCOUTS! This year, nearly 100 young adults became a part of this fun, great group, which includes Beaver Scouts (Grade 1-2), Cub Scouts (Grades 3-5), Scouts (Grade 6-9) and Venturer Scouts (Grade 9-12). CDNIS Verbier Ski Trip CNY 2018

CDNIS returns to Switzerland! The Grade 5-8/Grade 9-12 Ski trips will run February 15-24, 2018. This adventure includes six full days of skiing/snowboarding (with pro instructors) plus two days of cultural experiences in Switzerland. Our trip size is a maximum of 20 students and four staff. Oxbridge Books in the Library

The library has added a selection of books from the Oxbridge recommended reading list. These texts, recommended by Oxford and Cambridge colleges as preparatory reading for prospective applicants, are located in an area designated IBDP/Oxbridge Recommended Reading. Timberwolves Athletic Awards

On May 22 we celebrated an incredible year in Timberwolves Sport at the CDNIS Athletics Awards. Please check out the photos, award winners and full report on the Timberwovles website. At these awards we celebrate individual and team success. And team success is what it's all about. Our school believes that "A player who makes the team great, is more valuable than a great player".

Important Dates and Calendars

Just a reminder the Upper School starts Thursday, August 10 and the Lower School begins Monday, August 14. The LS Open House will be held Friday, August 11. Further details will be available in the Parent Information Handbook and Start of School Guide - coming soon. The 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 school calendars are available on the mobile app and CDNIS website. Please note the calendar for next year is final, but the calendar for the 2018/2019 school year may still see some changes and is in draft form.

Wanted: Lego and Duplo

Do you have bucket loads of Lego and Duplo that your kids no longer play with?! Well our Makers programme would love more Lego and Dulpo. Lego and Duplo are some of the best educational tools kids can use for creative design and invention, especially when it is mashed with new technologies. If you can donate a little or a lot, it would be a highly treasured resource for our students... so have your kids go dig through that mountain in their bedrooms now! Collections on the 9/F.

Testimonials for New Website

The new CDNIS website is currently being beta tested and the school is aiming to launch it in the coming weeks. The main homepage will feature a section dedicated to testimonials by our community. We would greatly appreciate it if students, staff and parents alike could fill in this Google Form, and provide us with a short testimonial about CDNIS. In addition, it would be great if you could send us a picture of yourself to accompany your testimonial – please send this to Clement Huang. Questions may also be directed to Clement Huang.

Save the Date - CDNIS Golf Day

Join us for the 2nd Annual CDNIS Golf Day on Tuesday, November 21 at Shek O Country Club. All funds raised will go to support the CDNIS Annual Giving Campaign. Details will be released soon. Enjoy a great afternoon of golf and all skill levels are welcome. Watch this space!

Summer Travels Postcard and Teddy Bear Adventures

Back by popular demand, it's the CDNIS Summer Travels Postcard and Teddy Bear Adventures! Last summer, the CDNIS Teddy Bear collected a lot of stamps in his passport over the summer - Norway, Abu Dhabi, Iceland and more! Wherever you are this summer, drop us a postcard at: CDNIS Summer Travels 2017, 36 Nam Long Shan Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong or take a picture (tell us where the picture was taken) and email it to us. We will post all the postcards and images on a BIG world map when school resumes.

Progress Reports

The final Progress Reports for the school year for all LS students will be published electronically starting Friday, June 2 at 4pm via the Parent Portal. The system does not archive reports, so please remember to download and save a copy for future reference.

PYP Celebration

The PYP Celebration takes place Friday, June 2. The celebration assembly will take place from 10am-11am in the LLAC, followed by a school-hosted BBQ for students, parents and faculty from 11am-12noon. After lunch, the students will take part in a parent-planned event from 12noon-2pm. An email with further details will be sent to all Grade 6 parents later today.

Lower School Transition Day

Progression to the next grade marks an emotional time for many of our students, as they say goodbye to their fellow classmates and teachers. To ease them through the process, CDNIS is offering a 'Transition Day' on Thursday, June 1 for all grades from Pre Reception to Grade 5. Please check out this letter by our Lower School Counsellors to learn more about what students and parents can experience from the day itself.

LS Performing Arts Experiences 2017-2018

Next year, the LS Performing Arts Department is excited to offer a wide range of experiences for the 2017-2018 school year. As you organise your child's schedule for next year, keep the following after-school opportunities in mind! Treble Timbertones will meet Tuesdays, while LS Strings Ensemble and LS Beginning Band will meet Wednesdays. LS Dance Troupe will meet on Thursdays. More information about joining each of these ensembles will come out in August.

Attention Prep and Grade 3 Parents: iPad and MacBook

Students who will be in Grade 1 and Grade 4 next year require their own iPad (Grade 1) or MacBook (Grade 4) as part of their learning journey. Parents may order these items now. Detailed information of the 1:1 iPad and MacBook programmes and online ordering procedures can be found right here. Please order your devices by Wednesday, May 31.

Upper School News

Experience Week 2017 (Grade 9-12)

In order to reduce stress at a very busy time of year, Experience Week (formally known as CAS week) will be moved to October for the Grade 9-12s in the upcoming school year (October 23-27). Because of the new timing, the registration process will be earlier with students attending the Experience Week Fair on Wednesday, June 7 and registering online before heading out for the summer. Please note that participation in Experience Week is mandatory for all Upper School students. The EW wesbite will be launch Wednesday, May 31 via the US website.

Awards Assemblies - Parents Welcome

The Grade 7 and 8 Awards Assembly has been rescheduled to Tuesday, June 6 at 10:15am in the LLAC. The Grade 9-11 Awards Assembly will be on Wednesday June 7 at 10:05am in the LLAC. Parents are welcome to attend.

Gr 12: Transition Weeks

Gr 12 students and parents are reminded that Gr 12 students will be in participating Transition Weeks activities from today, May 29 through June 7. TW consists of a variety of workshops, lectures, and field trips designed to help our graduates transition from high school to their post-secondary lives. Please note that participation in TW is mandatory. Click here for a schedule of activities.

NYU Abu Dhabi Info Session

NYU Abu Dhabi will hold an info session for students and parents Saturday, June 3 from 3pm-5pm. Space is limited; to register, please send an email to nyuad.east.asia@iie.org indicating HK, your name, school, and # of people attending; venue info will then be sent to you.

Australian University Fair and Exhibition

The Australia Future Unlimited Education Exhibition (AFUEE) 2017 will take place Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4 from 1pm-6pm at the Cordis Hotel, Mongkok. Over 35 Australian universities will be in attendance to meet with students and parents interested in higher ed opportunities in Australia. EducationUSA Pre-departure seminar
