Welcome New Families

Welcome to CDNIS! Just a few housekeeping items for all new families joining CDNIS in August - @CDNIS email and iPad/MacBooks. All new parents should have have received an email on Thursday, May 11 regarding their @CDNIS parent email account and iPad/MacBook purchasing. If you have not received this email, please contact OneDoor. And if your child will be entering Grades 1-3 or 4-12, please make sure you have purchased an iPad or Macbook by Wednesday, May 31 through our school vendor. Questions can be directed to OneDoor.


Chinese Studies Parent Coffee Morning

Are you a new CDNIS parents this year? Are you interested to know about PYP/MYP/DP Chinese programmes? Are you wondering how your child will be placed for next year's Chinese classes? Please join Penny Pan (Director of Chinese) for the Chinese Studies Parent Coffee morning at 8am - 9:30am on Tuesday, May 16 in the LLAC Lobby. She will introduce the CDNIS Chinese Programme in details, and will be happy to answer any questions that you may have. New parents with children attending Prep - Grade 10 during the upcoming school year are welcome.


Parent Coffee Morning - Project Innovate

Learn more about a major initiative which will help set the direction of the school for the next 10 years. Project Innovate is a whole-school initiative which focuses on math, literacy, robotics, arts and more. Learn how CDNIS will help to shape the learners for the future on Wednesday, May 17 at 7:30am in the LLAC Lobby. Please RSVP so we know the numbers for catering.

Important Library Dates

As the end of the year is quickly approaching there are some important Library dates to note. May 19 is the last date to check out books. On May 26 all books must be returned for inventory. We appreciate your help with getting everything back to the library on time! You can still read e-books over the summer via OverDrive, Big Universe and TumbleBooks! Check out this blog post for details.


ASA registration for Session 1 17/18

Ready, Set... Register! Enrolment for Session 1 2017-2018 starts on Monday, May 22. Early registration for current enrollments starts on Saturday, May 20. Check out the new ASA brochure on Wednesday, May 17!


Ordering School Lunch

The May and June lunch order forms, as well as the May and June lunch menus are attached. They can also be found on the CDNIS mobile app under Contacts-CDNIS Brochures-Cafeteria. Please contact Maxim's directly for more information.


Maxims Food and Cafeteria Survey

Have your say about the food your child eats and what food options you would like to see offered at the school via Maxim's survey. Your feedback will assist Maxims in providing the services and products you would like to see at school. Staff and students are asked to fill the survey out, but parents may also take part on behalf of their child.


Fifth Annual CDNIS Student Film Festival

The Film Department is proud to present the 5th annual CDNIS Student Film Festival "LUMIERE" on Wednesday, May 24 from 5:30pm - 8:30pm in the LLAC. It's a great opportunity for the Grade 12s to share some of the quality work they've done over the past two years in the IB Diploma Programme. The Grade 11s will also present some of the excellent films they've been working on.


Athletic Awards for all TWolves Athletes

A fantastic year in sport will be celebrated at the Athletic Awards on Monday, May 22. All Timberwolves Athletes from all teams are expected to attend. Parents are also invited. LS Awards are from 2:40-4pm; Season 1/2/3 MIP/MVP will be presented plus Athlete of the Year and Sportsperson of the Year. US Awards start with a Luau hour at 5pm (live music, Hawaiian themed food/activities). The Awards ceremony starts at 6pm.


ISSFHK Div 1 Soccer Teams Win Gold and Silver

Congratulations to our girls and boys football teams who last week finished a fantastic football year. Our G20 team played a thrilling final vHKIS, finishing with silver. This was a special game for coach Field, his last leading a team he has given so much to. The boys team finished the year on another high, winning the ISSFHK Championship 2-1 v ICS. Community Report from Local & Global Engagement

As coordinators of Local & Global Engagement, Kim Campbell and Smriti Safaya, have had a busy year working with the entire CDNIS community. In this role, they aim to develop, implement and support learning opportunities related to local and global issues, service learning, international mindedness, environmental and experiential education. 25th Anniversary Committee Sponsors Summer Band Camp

The 25th Anniversary Committee is sponsoring three CDNIS students who will join children from Hope Through Music Charity to take part in a Summer Band Camp in Beijing to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong Handover. This will be the second time our students and children from Hope Through Music will play music together after the charity concert held at LLAC in March.


Volunteers Needed to Test CDNIS App

We are looking for volunteers to help test run our new CDNIS mobile app - check out the new functions, help ensure the urgent messaging works, review the calendars - and more! If you are interested in helping out, please take a moment to fill in your details via this Google Form. Thank you for helping out! We hope to begin the testing phase in the coming days. Also note: beta testing the app is at the user's own risk to their device.


Bus Registration Starts Later This Month

The 2017/2018 academic year will see Sun Bus Limited commence regular school bus services at CDNIS. Registration for the new services is set to commence later this month and parents are advised to monitor Flash for further updates.


Summer Travels Postcard and Teddy Bear Adventures

Back by popular demand, it's the CDNIS Summer Travels Postcard and Teddy Bear Adventures! Last summer, the CDNIS Teddy Bear collected a lot of stamps in his passport over the summer - Norway, Abu Dhabi, Iceland and more! Wherever you are this summer, drop us a postcard at: CDNIS Summer Travels 2017, 36 Nam Long Shan Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong or take a picture (tell us where the picture was taken) and email it to us. We will post all the postcards and images on a BIG world map when school resumes.


2017-2018 Start of School Guide - Coming Soon

The 2017-2018 Start of School Guide will be available in the coming weeks. Everything you need to know to get the upcoming school year off to a great start can be found in this guide. This year the guide is being combined with the Parent Information Handbook. The guide will be available on the main school website, Parent Portal and mobile app. Watch this space.


CISPA - SUP at Stanley

Come and join CISPA for a new standing-up paddle boarding session (for parents).

CISPA Meditation Classes at School

Meditation classes for parents are organised by CISPA every Friday morning at school, from 8:10am-9:10am - meeting point: 7:50am at the 9/F lobby. Please come and join us this Friday, May 19.  Sharon Leng, a healing therapist and health educator, as well as a CDNIS alumni parent, will guide us through this practice. Attention Prep and Grade 3 Parents: iPad and MacBook

Students who will be in Grade 1 and Grade 4 next year require their own iPad (Grade 1) or MacBook (Grade 4) as part of their learning journey. Parents may order these items now. Detailed information of the 1:1 iPad and MacBook programmes and online ordering procedures can be found right here. Please order your devices by Wednesday, May 31.


Rec and Prep Parents - Feedback about Transition Presentations

Thank you to the parents that took time away from busy schedules to join us for the Transition Workshops (Rec to Prep and Prep to Rec). Please let us know how we can improve these presentations for next school year and any additional questions you may have so we can answer them early next school year. Application Deadline for 2018/2019 School Year

Please note the application deadline for Pre Reception to Grade 2 has been brought forward to Saturday, October 14, 2017 for 2018/2019 school entry. Admissions assesments for the aforementioned grades will begin in December of the preceding school year for applicants who successfully apply on or before October 14. Please contact the Admissions Office via email or by phone (2240 6363) for further assistance or information.


Upper School News

Grade 12 Parents: Graduation Information

A reminder to Grade 12 parents and families that Graduation will take place on Friday, May 26 beginning at 7pm in the LLAC. Please plan to arrive in advance of 7pm to be seated. Parking will not be available for the evening but bus service to and from CDNIS will be provided - details will be forthcoming.


Live Stream of Graduation

Do you have a child graduating this year, and would you like friends and family overseas to see the Graduation Ceremony? We will once again be streaming the ceremony live on Friday, May 26, 7pm Hong Kong time. The stream is available on the CDNIS Ustream channel, where you can also see last year's ceremony.


Attention Grade 10 Parents: MYP Celebration

Grade 10 students will celebrate the successful completion of the IB Middle Years on Friday, May 19. Students will be awarded their MYP Certificates followed by a night of wild dancing (students only)! Parents of Grade 10 students are welcome to attend. The parent portion goes from 6:30pm-8pm. Buses depart from Admiralty MTR Exit A at 6pm and Wong Chuk Hang MTR Exit A2 at 6:30pm. Return service also provided. A final bus for staff and students will leave at 10pm. Health & Physical Education Department's Response to Poor Weather

Poor air quality and inclement weather are common queries from parents. For more information on how the Upper school Health and Physical Education (HPE) Department monitor and deal with varying weather and air conditions, as well as other general information please refer to the HPE site.


Vanderbilt, Chicago, and Johns Hopkins Presentation

Representatives from Vanderbilt University, University of Chicago, and Johns Hopkins University invite parents to an information session on Wednesday, May 17, 7pm - 8:30pm at Diocesan Girls School, 1 Jordan Road Kowloon.


Christ's College, University of Cambridge - Information Session

Dr. Tomlinson, Director of Admissions at Christ's College, will be sharing information about applying to Cambridge Colleges and also about her college. Her talk will include a critique of a past Cambridge Overseas Preliminary Application statements. Aspiring Cambridge applicants and their parents are invited to attend this event on Thursday, May 18 from 6:30pm - 8pm at Chinese International School.


University of Melbourne Information Day

University of Melbourne invite interested students and parents to their information day on Sunday, May 21. The information session will run from 2pm - 5pm at the Marina Rooms in the Excelsior Hotel, Causeway Bay.


University of Guelph

On Monday, May 22, representatives from Guelph University in Ontario, Canada will visit the guidance office. All interested students and parents are invited to attend. The presentation and Q&A will start at 2:30pm.


Grade 9-11 Exam Schedule

The schedule for Grade 9 - 11 final exams is now available. A more detailed schedule, including specific room assignments for Grade 9 and 10 exams, will follow.
