The 2018 Alan Dick Community Blast

CDNIS has recognised Alan Dick and his contribution to the school every spring since 2010. This year the event will involve US kids visiting LS classrooms to enjoy a variety of activities. These will include watching a video about Alan, dancing his favorite Hokey Pokey Dance and learning a few others, and enjoying mini-cupcakes. A montage video will be shared widely among the CDNIS community after the event.


Monopoly Games Have Arrived

The CDNIS bespoke Monopoly games have arrived. They are available to be picked up at the 9/F office, and delivered to those who selected that option. When picking up your game, please provide the name and email address/phone number on the original order. Order your game today.


The Hong Kong French Theatre Festival

The Hong Kong French Theatre Festival will take place from March 7-10, with a special matinee for our French students on Friday, March 9 in the LLAC from 1pm-2:25pm. All are welcome! Tickets are available here for a small contribution of HK$50. All proceeds of the HKFTF will go to Pour un sourire d'enfant, a charity funded by two French retirees, Christian and Marie-France des Pallières.


CDNIS Students Enjoy Superb Switzerland Ski Trip

During CNY, 22 students and 4 teachers traveled to Crans Montana, Switzerland for the annual CDNIS Ski Week. This trip was an amazing experience; perfect conditions, skiers/snowboarders enjoying powder snow and spectacular views on some of the best slopes in the world. This trip is a fantastic way to inspire excellence, cultivate character, and empower engagement locally and globally, in a very cool environment. Check out the full report with photos here.

 


Splash Dash Swim-a-thon in the CDNIS Pool

Splash Dash, a Swim-a-thon fundraiser, is taking palce at CDNIS on Sunday, March 18. Splash is a non-profit organisation that leads swim/water safety courses for under-served communities who may not have the access or means for swim lessons. CDNIS College Clinic

The CDNIS US Guidance Team are offering a College Clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm-5pm for any member of the CDNIS Community. For more information, please contact Rob Aldridge or Scott Atherton in the US Guidance Office. All consultations will be confidential and offered on a first-come-first-served basis.


Sick Students - Please Stay Home

Please do not send your child to school if they are feeling unwell, especially if their temperature is 37.5C or higher, or if they have a cough, runny nose, diarrhea or rash. As recommended by the CHP, Department of Health, we strongly advise parents to check their child's temperature before going to school. Please remember to email the school nurse if your child does not come to school because they are ill. Many thanks for helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment at CDNIS.


Project Innovate Parents Coffee Morning

Join us for our last Project Innovate Parents Coffee Morning on Tuesday, March 20 for a hands-on maker experience around the theme "building resilience in your child with hands-on learning". Details including RSVP will be in next week's Flash.


Class of 2018: Offers to Universities

Members of the Class of 2018 are continuing to receive great news from various leading universities around the world. Take a moment to review the offers our students have received so far (as of March 2). Remember to watch this space for further updates!


Tuition Fee Deposit for 2018/2019 School Year

The tuition fee deposit for 2018/19 is due for all returning students on March 22, 2018. Invoices will be posted to the Parent Portal under NetClassroom>Billing starting March 1, 2018. To secure your seats, all returning students must pay a deposit of HK$20,000. Please check your Parent Portal account for more information. Any inquiries can be directed to our Accounts Department.


ASA Survey and Tender information for Football and Gymnastics

ASA Gymnastics and ASA Football are our most popular Afterschool Activities; 500 students enjoy these activities. We’re always striving to improve our fantastic ASA experiences, please complete these surveys if you have an interest in ASA Gymnastics or ASA Football. As part of our three-year review, we’re inviting expressions of interest from providers of ASA Gymnastics/ASA Football. Contact James Lovegrove if you would like to recommend a provider.


Spring Break Holiday

Just a reminder - Thursday, March 29 is a regular day, so students will be dismissed at their normal time. Please note the holiday period runs March 30-April 8 for students, with classes resuming Monday, April 9.


IB Art Grad Exhibition

The annual IB DP Art grad exhibition, Odyssey, opens Tuesday, April 10 in the LLAC. Come and view the amazing works our incredibly talented Grade 12 students have created over the past two years. You will see sculpture, painting, photography, video, drawing, animation and much more. It is always a standout event on the school calendar, so don't miss out!


Parent Liaison Committee

This is the third year since the Board of Governors has re-established the Parent Liaison Committee (PLC). The PLC is a multi-stakeholder Committee, comprised of Governors, Parents, and School Administrators. The PLC serves as a communication channel between parents and the Board of Governors. Fire Alarm Procedures

Do you know what to do if the fire alarm rings? If you are in the 6/F cafeteria or perhaps enjoying a latte at the Maple Cafe, the evacuation route for parents and others is to go across the pitch towards the LLAC. From there, turn left up the stairs and follow the signs out to Nam Long Shan. If you have any questions, email the Health and Safety team


Ordering School Lunch

The February to April lunch order form and menus (March and April) are available on the main school website, in School Brochures. Parents can order meals by filling out the form and dropping it off, with payment, in the 6/F Cafeteria or by mail to CDNIS. Any questions can be directed to Maxim's via email or by calling 2240 6052.


CISPA - Annual General Meeting

CISPA Annual General Meeting and Nominations – CISPA’s Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday, March 12 at 8am in the LLAC Lobby. We encourage all parents to join us for the AGM as members will receive reports of the Board and the auditors, consider CISPA’s accounts, and participate in an election, if required. Please, read on the CISPA website about the current board members and their responsibilities.


CISPA - Book Swaps

CISPA Book Swaps are back this month! Bring in your old books to trade for another. The Upper School book swap will be on Tuesday, March 13 during the lunch period. Lower School Pre Reception to Grade 2 will be on Tuesday, March 20 and Lower School Grade 3 to 6 on Thursday March 22 from 7:15am to 8:30am. Contact Christina Matula-hakli to volunteer.


CISPA - Lost Property on Display

Lost and found un-named items shall be on display on the 9/F Lobby on Friday, March 9 from 7:15am to 12:30pm. Thereafter, they shall be placed in the Lost Property cupboard except for wet swim items – for hygiene reasons, these cannot be kept in storage and will be donated to charity or otherwise disposed of. All un-claimed Lost Property on March 31 shall be donated to charity or otherwise disposed of.

Lower School News

Parent Presentation for Prep Parents

Parents, helpers, grandparents and other family members are all invited to the next and final Prep workshop for the school year. This presentation will spotlight Writing in Prep; what writing looks like in a play-based environment, different tools to encourage writing, how to promote writing at home and how to inspire a love of writing. This workshop will take place on Thursday, March 15 from 8am-9am in the Library Pit. Please sign up here.


Parent Presentation for Pre Rec and Rec Parents

Please join the Early Years teachers for the upcoming Risky Play workshop to find out more about how risky play develops resilience, self esteem, builds confidence and teaches children how to develop good decision making skills to keep themselves safe. This will be held in the Library Pit on Thursday, March 15, from 9am-10am. Please sign up here.


Lower School House Day

Show your house spirit by participating in the next Lower School House Day on Friday, March 16. Students can wear their PE uniforms and sit with others from their Houses at lunch. It’s an enjoyable and positive way to connect and build House community, and we look forward to a full showing of colours.


ASA Easter Programme

Still looking for something to keep your children busy over the Easter break? Enrol your little bunnies in the egg-citing CDNIS Easter Holiday Programme on April 3, 4 & 6. Choose from football, gymnastics, swimming, Zones of Regulation or Theatre Sports! Please visit the After School Activities Website to enrol online. The programme is open to both CDNIS and non-CDNIS students.

Upper School News

Parent-Teacher-Student Discussions

Upper School Parent-Teacher-Student Discussions will be held on Wednesday, March 7 (5pm-7pm) and Thursday, March 8 (8am-5pm). Parents will be able to respond to teacher invitations from Thursday, March 1, and book their own appointments from Sunday, March 4 through the Parent Portal. The booking system will close on Tuesday, March 6 at 4pm. As in the fall, students are expected to attend and participate in these conferences.


Higher Education Fair

On Friday, March 16, our annual Higher Education Fair is taking place in the large gym. We are excited to welcome 75+ post-secondary institutions from around the world onto our campus to answer questions and share important admissions information. Students, and parents, are welcome and encouraged to come and meet with reps - they're eager to meet our students! For more information, please click here.


Spring into Reading and CISPA Book Swap

The Upper School Library's celebration of books and reading will happen the week of March 12-16, with a great lineup of events -including CISPA's annual US Book Swap, which will take place in the Forum on Tuesday, March 13. Refresh your personal library by swapping last year's favourite titles for a whole set of "new to you" books. Donations are also appreciated. Other events planned for the week range from an author visit to our second annual "Book Bee" literature quiz! Click here for all the details.


Blood Donation Event

Organised by the Hong Kong Red Cross, the blood donation event will take place on Monday, March 26, from 9:30am-3pm in the LLAC lobby. Upper School students aged 16 or above are invited to give blood. To sign up, please click here. Students who weigh less than 41 kg will not be able to give blood. Please note that for all first-time donors aged 16 to 17 have to complete the Parent’s/Guardian’s Consent Form for blood donation prior to the event. The form can be picked up at the 4/F nurse's office. Photocopies of the document will not be accepted.


University of Bristol Visit

On Tuesday, March 13, we will have professors from the following academic areas giving advice on courses and careers: Law, Management and Economics, Veterinary Science, Psychology, Engineering, Biomedical Sciences and the Faculty of Arts. This will be held in the 3/F common area from 12pm-1pm.


Grade 9 Parents Personal Project Presentation Slides

Procedures for Reference Requests

When requesting references to summer school programmes, boarding schools or any other organizations, please use this online form. School policy is to use CDNIS reference material exclusively. The timeline for a referral is 10 working days and requests received within two weeks prior to a holiday period will be processed after the holiday. If you have questions, please contact your child’s counsellor directly.


Symphonic Winds Performance

Symphonic Winds will be playing at Hong Kong City Hall on Saturday, March 24. The Concert will start at 7:30pm. Please contact Ms. Jessy Po if you would like tickets. 


Cambridge Summer School

Visa Letters for Grade 7 & 8 Experience Week

If your child needs a visa for their Grade 7 & 8 Experience Week trip, you were contacted via email by Veronica Tse. The visa letters required by the embassies have been sent to students. You can double check to see if your child needs a visa on this site or on the embassy website directly. Visas on arrival are not permitted on EW trips. If you think your child needs a visa but has not received a visa letter, please contact Rachel Kirchner or Veronique Nobert
