Reaching Out, Touching Lives
The foundation of any successful school is the close bond shared between students and teachers. With their commitment of learning from one another and a passion for making a difference, the CDNIS family is achieving excellence all around the world! This week, we talk to DP Physics teacher Marios Mantzoukis, who recently competed in the Tokyo Marathon to help raise funds for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. To learn more about Mr. Mantzhoukis admirable actions, read this article and watch this video.

Time is Running Out - DP Visual Arts Exhibition
You have until Wednesday, March 29 to take part in the Grade 12 Visual Art students showcase in the LLAC Lobby. Check out the amazing works of art created by our talented students. We would like to show off some of the spectacular pieces via Flash, but unfortunately the IB states that no student work may be published publicly due to plagiarism risks until all assessment dates have closed - which is April 21. All the more reason to visit the show this week between 8am-4pm.
Register Now: Canada Rugby 7s Team
The Canadian Men's Rugby 7s team is returning to CDNIS. On Sunday, April 2, the team will hold a practice, followed by a skills clinic for rugby players of all ages and an autograph/photo session. The event is open to CDNIS and non-CDNIS families, so please help to spread the word! We ask that all families to please pre-register so we can plan the skills clinic accordingly. The cost is HK$100/family with all funds raised going to the Canadian Rugby Team. We will also host a family BBQ with proceeds going to the team. Please click here to pre-register.
Traffic and Safety
We work hard to make CDNIS a safe environment. Since there is no public parking at CDNIS and no parking along Nam Long Shan Road, we encourage students/parents to use the school bus or other public transportation. But if you do have to drive, please refrain from honking your car horn, please follow the directions of our security guards/police, please do not block neighbouring driveways and please do not make 3-point turns along the road. Thank you for your cooperation.
Evening of the Arts
Get ready for a magical evening, as CDNIS proudly presents "Evening of the Arts" on Thursday, April 6 at 7pm. The event will take place in the LLAC Theatre, featuring musical performances by the CDNIS Stage Band, Concert Band, Wind Philharmonic, Symphonic Winds, as well as the LLAC Lobby, which will showcase the grade 9/10 Visual Art Exhibition. Admission is free and tickets are available at the Box Office.
School Bus 2017/2018 School Year
Thank you to all parents who have taken the time to provide their questions and feedback regarding the school bus service for the upcoming school year. As mentioned, the school will share all parent feedback with Sun Bus later this month. To ensure all parents have a chance to provide their comments, this CDNIS School Bus Service Form will remain open until 4pm on Tuesday, March 28. Please take the time to enter your comments and/or questions before that time.
10% Electricity Reduction Initiative
Keep it up, CDNIS...since March 1, we've reduced our electricity consumption by 8.8%! This initiative started on March 1, and will compare usage from March-June 2017 to that of 2016. Observe usage on our online energy monitoring system, En-trak. Use cdnisstudent and cdnis888 on the login page. See graphs and screenshots from the system on our EcoSmart site to understand where we have reduced usage. Stay tuned for updates.
GreenWeek 2017 is one month away (April 24-28) and the whole community can engage in all things environmental in various ways (see schedule)! GreenWeek includes a Plastic Free Seas boat experience, pre-order buying local organic produce at our "Farmers Market" event, a "Swap, Not Shop!" clothing exchange for adult clothes, a GreenWeek Cinema in the Forum & OneDoor, even a green DDD and much more! Stay tuned for updates!
Upcycling Activity: Call for Volunteers
Help us to upcycle unused uniforms and turn them into artwork! We are in need of volunteers during Green Week (April 24-28) to help students of all ages with the cutting up of fabrics. This will continue during our Lower School art community days (May 11 and 12) where we will sew them into patches for a quilt. No sewing experience necessary! Please email Liz Chow if you'd be interested.
