Spring Break Holiday

Just a reminder - Thursday, March 29 is a regular day, so students will be dismissed at their normal time. Please note the holiday period runs March 30-April 8 for students, with classes resuming Monday, April 9.


Blood Donation Event Today!

A reminder that the blood donation drive is happening today, from 9:30am-3pm in the LLAC lobby. Upper School students aged 16 or above are invited to give blood, as well as all parents. To sign up, please click here. Students who weigh less than 41 kg will not be able to give blood. Please note that for all first-time donors aged 16 to 17 have to complete the Parent’s/Guardian’s Consent Form for blood donation prior to the event. The form can be picked up at the 4/F nurse's office. Photocopies of the document will not be accepted. There are restrictions in place for people who spent time in Europe in the 1980's. If you have any questions, please email the school nurse.


Message from Principals

Due to an IB Conference in Singapore this week, Mr. David Baird, Mr. Tim Kaiser and Dr. Helen Kelly will be away from the school. In their absence March 26-28, Mr. David Butler will be Acting Head of School, Mr. Rob Grantham Acting Lower School Principal and Mrs. Barbara Dacho will be Acting Upper School Principal.


CIS/WASC Visit-Parent Group

From April 15-20, representatives from CIS/WASC will visit our school as the culmination of the Self-Study. An important part of this is a meeting with parents to discuss the school's strengths and areas where we can grow. Seussical Jr. Transportation

Parents and guests of the evening Seussical Jr. performances March 27/28 - shuttle buses will be running from the Wong Chuk Hang MTR station to school at 5:30pm, 5:45pm, 6pm and 6:15pm as well as after the show at 8pm and 8:10pm to Wong Chuk Hang MTR Station, CWB (Golden Dragon), Admiralty MTR, Central Piers and GPO. Buses have limited seating, so seats will be on a first-come, first-served basis. 


IB Art Grad Exhibition

The annual IB DP Art grad exhibition, Odyssey, opens Tuesday, April 10 in the LLAC. Come and view the amazing works our incredibly talented Grade 12 students have created over the past two years. You will see sculpture, painting, photography, video, drawing, animation and much more. It is always a standout event on the school calendar, so don't miss out!


Class of 2018: Offers to Universities

Members of the Class of 2018 are continuing to receive great news from various leading universities around the world. Take a moment to review the offers our students have received so far (as of March 23). Please note that this data is a snapshot of decisions at this point in time and not a final set of decisions. Each university system has different decision dates and individual universities have their own decision processes.


Lost and Found - Valuable Items

Please stop by the 9/F office this week if you have lost a valuable item. A number of items have been turned into the 9/F office including phones, wallets, watches, glasses, Octopus cards and more. If you or your child has lost anything of significant value at the school, office staff might have it.


Summer School 2018

The CDNIS Summer School programme is about to be released.  There really is something for everyone; Maths to Maker Space, Punching to Politics, Irish Sports to Inspirational Authors, Crafts to Cooking, Friendship Skills to Math Functions, Space and beyond. Plus the returning favourites Multi Activity, Kindergarten Fun, Swim, Gymnastics and Soccer. Watch the Flash for sign up details after the Easter break. 


Emergency Evacuation Information

Parents and visitors, do you know where to go if the fire alarm rings when you are in the building? If you are with a class, follow them out. If you are at the Maple Cafe or sixth floor cafeteria, watch this student made video to find out where to go. If you have any questions, email Jon Adams 


2018 Summer Taipei Mandarin Immersion Programme

Registration for the 2018 Summer Taipei Mandarin Immersion Programme is now open. The trip will take place from Friday, June 8 - Friday, June 22. Tailor-made by the CDNIS Chinese Department, the programme will include cultural experiences and an exchange with a local school. Please go to the programme website to register and to find out more information.


Screenagers: Mark Your Calendar

We will be showing Screenagers to our CDNIS community on Thursday, April 12. In the morning Grade 5-9 students will watch this important documentary about the prevalence of social media and digital screens in our children's lives. A parent screening, followed by a panel discussion, will take place at the LLAC Theatre in the evening. Watch this space for specific times.


CDNIS College Clinic

The CDNIS US Guidance Team are offering a College Clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm-5pm for any member of the CDNIS Community. For more information, please contact Rob Aldridge or Scott Atherton in the US Guidance Office. All consultations will be confidential and offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Are your contact details up to date with the school? If you recently changed your mobile number, or moved to a new address, please let the school know. Parents can always check and update their contact details via the Parent Portal - Profile Update - Contact Info Update.


Hong Kong Rugby 7s Tickets

The Hong Kong Rugby 7s takes place this year during Spring Break. We have secured a number of free tickets for CDNIS students (Grade 4-12) to attend the Friday afternoon/evening session, on Friday, April 6. Please view important information and sign up on the Timberwolves Site.


Parent ID Badges

Please remember to wear your parent ID badge when at school - including weekends. To help in better identifying people when they are on the campus, staff, parents, guardians and visitors have a special coloured lanyard to accompany their ID card. Please ensure your ID badge is clearly displayed at all times when you are on the campus. Questions – please see Jon Adams.


Sick Students - Please Stay Home

Please do not send your child to school if they are feeling unwell, especially if their temperature is 37.5C or higher, or if they have a cough, runny nose, diarrhea or rash. As recommended by the CHP, Department of Health, we strongly advise parents to check their child's temperature before going to school. Please remember to email the school nurse if your child does not come to school because they are ill. Many thanks for helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment at CDNIS.

Lower School News

Student Led Learning Reviews (SLLR): Prep - Grade 5

Student Led Learning Reviews (SLLR) will be be hosted on Friday, April 27 (Prep to Grade 5). Parents can begin making their SLLR appointments Monday, April 16 (families with 2+ children in the LS) and Wednesday, April 18 (other LS families). After Spring Break a letter from the Lower School Administration will be shared outlining additional details.


DDD Theme: Under The Sea

Dress as your favourite ocean animal or sea creature next Thursday, March 29 to show your support for Plastic Free Seas, the Orca house charity. We're bringing the ocean to land so anything from magical mermaids to swimming sharks goes!


Sign-up to audition for Student Showcases

Calling all performers! We are looking for talented Prep-Grade 6 students to perform in the Student Showcases on May 23-25. Auditions will be held after school in the Forum on Thursday, April 19 and Friday, April 20. If your child is interested, sign them up to audition here. The last day to sign up is Friday, April 13. ASA Easter Programme 2018

Still looking for something to keep your children busy over the Easter break? Enrol your little bunnies in the egg-citing CDNIS Easter Holiday Programme on April 3, 4 & 6. Choose from football, gymnastics, swimming, Zones of Regulation or Theatre Sports! Please visit the After School Activities Website to enrol online. The programme is open to both CDNIS and non-CDNIS students.


Save the date - 1:1 Device Parent Info Meetings

Two 1:1 parent info meetings this year will be held in the morning on Monday, May 7. The Grade 4 1:1 Laptop parent info session (for current Grade 3 parents) is in the library pit from 8am-9am. The Grade 1 1:1 iPad parent info session (for current Prep parents) is in the library pit from 9am-10am. Invitations including RSVP will be sent out in April.

Jockey Club Scholarship

The Jockey Club Scholarship is an annual award presented to three students who will be completing Grade 11 in June this year and attending CDNIS in their graduating year. The scholarship will be the tuition fee for the 2018/2019 academic year. Criteria for the award include academic achievement as well as leadership and contribution to the CDNIS community. To apply for the Jockey Club Scholarship, candidates must submit a signed application to Ms. Elsa Fung in the Guidance Office by Friday, April 20


University of Alberta Scholarship

Reminder about the information session on the Dr. John Poon Award and Scholarship in Business. This fantastic opportunity is available only to CDNIS graduates with scholarship money up to the full amount of domestic or international tuition for three full years at the University of Alberta School of Business. The scholarship also comes with a Hong Kong homecoming travel allowance and an opportunity to visit the University of Alberta School of Business while still a student at CDNIS. To hear more about this generous offer exclusive to CDNIS students, you are cordially invited to join Dr. John Poon, CDNIS Upper School Administration, and G10 and G11 Business and Economics students on Friday, April 13 at the Leo Leo Arts Centre Auditorium at 11am We are pleased to announce that Dr. Joseph Doucet, Dean of the Alberta School of Business, and  Dr. Edy Wong will be on hand to share with CDNIS information about their programme and how it connects with this wonderful scholarship opportunity. Our guests will also be available in the Level 5 Guidance Office at 10am, at 12 noon, and 2pm to meet with parents and students who are unable to make the presentation or have specific questions. 


OSSD Summer School Programme

CDNIS is offering students the chance to earn formal OSSD Grade 11 & 12 credits through an accelerated Summer School Programme (Math, English, Politics & Science). Students currently in Grades 10 & 11 are eligible to participate. All courses take three weeks and will run from June 12-29. The fee for CDNIS students is HK$13,000. Parents can find more details and pre-register here.


G7&8 Experience Week Week Travel Documents Collection

Please submit your child’s original travel documents (passport + HKID or China Home Permit Card + HKID) starting from Monday, April 9 through Friday, April 13 to your child’s homeroom teacher. Trip leaders will be checking the issued ticket against the original travel document and verifying visas (when applicable). Trip leaders will bring the travel documents to the airport for your child on the departure day, and they will secure all travel documents for the duration of the trip. Original documents will be returned to students on arrival back to Hong Kong. 


Grade 9 - 11 Exam Schedule (May & June 2018)

The Grade 9-11 Final Exam schedule is now available for students and parents to download. Further details about exams, including specific room locations, will be published in May.


University of Bath presentation

Dr Alex Jeffries from the Faculty of Science at the University of Bath be visiting to talk with any student interested in Biosciences generally or the University of Bath specifically. The meeting will take place in US Guidance from 1pm-2pm on Tuesday, March 27.


Grade 12: Grad save the date, updates

Difficult to believe, but the Class of 2018 Graduation is approaching! Grade 12 parents, please save the date of Friday, May 25, and note the new start time this year of 5pm. We will be sending occasional updates regarding Grad Week and preparations leading up to it; these will come to parents' CDNIS email addresses (name@cdnis.hk) so please do keep an eye out for these messages. 


Cambridge Summer School

If your child aged 15-18 is free this summer the the Cambridge Summer School may be an excellent option. For more information, including course details and how to sign up, please visit the programme website. Registration is open now and filling up fast!


McGill Summer Academy

For the first time, McGill University will be offering a summer academy outside of Canada. This program offers learning opportunities for students aged 15-19 that foster curiosity about the natural, physical and social phenomena and prepare them for continuing learning at university. Programmes will run from Aug 1-6 from 9am-3:45pm. BizSmart’s Silicon Valley Entrepreneurship Workshops

Join for six full days of being coached by a young, experienced and passionate director flying in from America. Topics covered include finance, sales, marketing, product design and business planning, including future ready skills for the jobs of tomorrow.
