Reaching Out, Touching Lives
The foundation of any successful school is the close bond shared between students and teachers. With their commitment of learning from one another and a passion for making a difference, the CDNIS family is achieving excellence all around the world! This week, we speak with members of the Literary Club and learn how they are helping their fellow students publish their poems, short stories and artwork in Scope and elsewhere.
Jing Ying Football Champions
Today the entire school will celebrate the U20 Boys Football team's recent All Hong Kong Schools Jing Ying Football Championship. The squad beat football powerhouse YCH Yung Chi Ying Memorial Secondary School 6-5 on sudden death penalties to win the title. Video highlights from the game can be found on our CDNIS YouTube channel, while pictures from today will be shared on the CDNIS Facebook page.
Just Over a Week to Re-enroll for 2017/2018
Parents have until March 22, 2017 to reserve their child's space for the upcoming 2017/2018 school year. The goal of re-enrollment is simply to protect the seats of current students who want to return in 2017/2018, and to predict the number of seats we can offer to waiting applicants. If you know you will be leaving at the end of this school year, we are sorry to see your family go. The tuition fee deposit for 2017/18 is due for all returning students on March 22, 2017. Invoices have been posted to the Parent Portal under NetClassroom>Billing. To secure your seats, all returning students must pay a deposit of HK$20,000. Please check your Parent Portal account for more information. Tuition deposits are fully refundable by official written notice given before May 8, 2017. Any inquiries can be directed to our Accounts Department.
CIS/WASC Accreditation Self-Study Committees
The next step in our accreditation process is the formation of various committees to look at several areas within our school. Beginning on April 18 through to January, 2018, several committees will review what we do well and what we need to improve on to have the largest positive impact on the learning of all of our students. Parent participation on these committees is an important aspect of the process. An email in the coming days will share more information about how you can sign up to represent the parent's perspective on these committees. If you have any questions about the CIS/WASC committees, please contact Jon Adams.
Thank You for Celebrating With Us
Thank you to all who joined us to celebrate Alan Dick Community Day and the school's 25th Anniversary last week. Alan Dick had an impact on so many lives and we are so proud his legacy lives on at CDNIS. The Upper School Photography Team captured some great pictures which are part of this video. Or visit the CDNIS Facebook Page for more great pics from the day.

Easter Holiday Chinese Studies Programmes
There are still spots if you'd like to participate in the Easter holiday Chinese Studies programme. This includes an exchange programme with Siyuan Primary School in Hainan, which will see 15 grade 4-6 students visit the school in China from April 9-15 (details can be found right here); as well as a number of IB Chinese Exam Prep courses for current G11/G12 MFL/MSL/MHL students during the Easter break (contact Penny Pan for more information).
Spring into Reading Recap
The Upper School library held a Spring into Reading celebration February 27-March 3. We kicked off the celebration with two performances and a workshop by author Valerie Bloom, followed by CISPA's annual US Book Swap. We also celebrated the Golden Dragon Award nominees and hosted a birthday party for Dr. Seuss in the library! (A huge "thank you" to Lucy Chin for creating an incredible Seuss-themed birthday cake!) Our wind-up activity, a Book Bee quiz involving teachers and students, was postponed due to CDNIS' participation in the historic Jing Ying Football championship game and will take place March 24.
The Reading Tree
Do you have any old MP3 or CD players you are not using? From April 24-28, you can donate your unwanted electronics to The Reading Tree! Simply place them in boxes located on the 6/F, 7/F and 9/F. The Reading Tree needs these devices to develop an auditory reading programme. The programme will be used to help children in the developing world. Please visit this link to follow our progress.
