Remembering Alan Dick

Last Wednesday, CDNIS celebrated the life of former Lower School Principal Mr. Alan Dick and his contributions to the school, as we have done every spring since 2010. Take a moment to learn more about Alan and the difference he made in the lives of so many. Thank you to Grade 12 student Renee (Class of 2018) for creating this touching video and for all who participated in its creation.

Seussical Jr. Tickets On Sale

CDNIS proudly presents the Lower School production of Seussical Jr. on Tuesday, March 27 and Wednesday, March 28 in the LLAC theatre at 6:30pm. Tickets cost $100 each, and are for sale in the LLAC Lobby, and online starting March 14. This colourful and zany production will win the hearts of kids and kids at heart - so let your toes tap, your fingers snap and your imagination run wild!

Project Innovate Parents Coffee Morning

Join us for our last Project Innovate Parents Coffee Morning on Tuesday, March 20, from 7:30am-8:30am in the LLAC lobby for a hands-on maker experience around the theme "building resilience in your child with hands-on learning". Please RSVP here.

Spring Break Holiday

Just a reminder - Thursday, March 29 is a regular day, so students will be dismissed at their normal time. Please note the holiday period runs March 30-April 8 for students, with classes resuming Monday, April 9.

Blood Donation Event

Organised by the Hong Kong Red Cross, the blood donation event will take place on Monday, March 26, from 9:30am-3pm in the LLAC lobby. Upper School students aged 16 or above are invited to give blood, as well as all parents. To sign up, please click here. Students who weigh less than 41 kg will not be able to give blood. Please note that for all first-time donors aged 16 to 17 have to complete the Parent’s/Guardian’s Consent Form for blood donation prior to the event. The form can be picked up at the 4/F nurse's office. Photocopies of the document will not be accepted.

Hong Kong Rugby 7s Tickets

The Hong Kong Rugby 7s takes place this year during Spring Break. We have secured a number of free tickets for CDNIS students (Grade 4-12) to attend the Friday afternoon/evening session. Please view important information and sign up on the Timberwolves Site.

Splash Dash Swim-a-thon in the CDNIS Pool

Splash Dash, a Swim-a-thon fundraiser, is taking place at CDNIS on Sunday, March 18. Splash is a non-profit organisation that leads swim/water safety courses for under-served communities who may not have the access or means for swim lessons. The Swim-a-thon fundraiser is a massive event, for more information on how to enter a team (corporate/social/family) and ways to support Splash, please click here. 2018 Summer Taipei Mandarin Immersion Programme

Registration for the 2018 Summer Taipei Mandarin Immersion Programme is now open. The trip will take place from Friday, June 8 - Friday, June 22. Tailor-made by the CDNIS Chinese department, the programme will include cultural experiences and an exchange with a local school. Please go to the programme website to register and to find out more information.

ASA Survey and Tender Information for Football and Gymnastics

Gymnastics and Football are our most popular After-School Activities; 500 students enjoy these activities. We’re always striving to improve our fantastic ASA experiences, please complete these surveys if you have an interest in ASA Gymnastics or ASA Football. As part of our three-year review, we’re inviting expressions of interest from providers of Gymnastics and Football. Contact James Lovegrove if you would like to recommend a provider.

CDNIS College Clinic

The CDNIS US Guidance Team are offering a College Clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm-5pm for any member of the CDNIS Community. For more information, please contact Rob Aldridge or Scott Atherton in the US Guidance Office. All consultations will be confidential and offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

IB Art Grad Exhibition

The annual IB DP Art grad exhibition, Odyssey, opens Tuesday, April 10 in the LLAC. Come and view the amazing works our incredibly talented Grade 12 students have created over the past two years. You will see sculpture, painting, photography, video, drawing, animation and much more. It is always a standout event on the school calendar, so don't miss out!

Sick Students - Please Stay Home

Please do not send your child to school if they are feeling unwell, especially if their temperature is 37.5C or higher, or if they have a cough, runny nose, diarrhea or rash. As recommended by the CHP, Department of Health, we strongly advise parents to check their child's temperature before going to school. Please remember to email the school nurse if your child does not come to school because they are ill. Many thanks for helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment at CDNIS.

Tuition Fee Deposit for 2018/2019 School Year

The tuition fee deposit for 2018/19 is due for all returning students on Thursday, March 22, 2018. Invoices will be posted to the Parent Portal under NetClassroom>Billing starting March 1, 2018. To secure your seats, all returning students must pay a deposit of HK$20,000. Please check your Parent Portal account for more information. Any inquiries can be directed to our Accounts Department.

CISPA - Book Swaps

CISPA Book Swaps are back this month! Bring in your old books to trade for another. The Upper School book swap will be on Tuesday, March 13 during the lunch period. Lower School Pre Reception to Grade 2 will be on Tuesday, March 20 and Lower School Grade 3 to 6 on Thursday March 22 from 7:15am to 8:30am. Contact Christina Matula-Hakli to volunteer.

Parent Presentation for Prep Parents

Parents, helpers, grandparents and other family members are all invited to the next and final Prep workshop for the school year. This presentation will spotlight Writing in Prep; what writing looks like in a play-based environment, different tools to encourage writing, how to promote writing at home and how to inspire a love of writing. This workshop will take place on Thursday, March 15 from 8am-9am in the Library Pit. Please sign up here.

Parent Presentation for Pre Rec and Rec Parents

Please join the Early Years teachers for the upcoming Risky Play workshop to find out more about how risky play develops resilience, self esteem, builds confidence and teaches children how to develop good decision making skills to keep themselves safe. This will be held in the Library Pit on Thursday, March 15, from 9am-10am. Please sign up here.

Lower School House Day

Show your house spirit by participating in the next Lower School House Day on Friday, March 16. Students can wear their PE uniforms and sit with others from their Houses at lunch. It’s an enjoyable and positive way to connect and build House community, and we look forward to a full showing of colours.

ASA Easter Programme 2018

Still looking for something to keep your children busy over the Easter break? Enrol your little bunnies in the egg-citing CDNIS Easter Holiday Programme on April 3, 4 & 6. Choose from football, gymnastics, swimming, Zones of Regulation or Theatre Sports! Please visit the After School Activities Website to enrol online. The programme is open to both CDNIS and non-CDNIS students.

Lower School Sailing

LS Sailing Level 1 is a 10 session Sport, delivered by the RHKYC. Participants aim to complete step 1 course (Optimist), but some older LS students may complete Level 1 (Pico). The cost is $2400, paid by Cheque to CDNIS (Athletics Office 304). There are 12 spaces for LS Students. Dates March 22 April 12/19/26 May 3/10/17/24/31 June 5. Age 8-12 year olds as of March 1, 2018. Please sign up here.

Higher Education Fair

On Friday, March 16, our annual Higher Education Fair is taking place in the large gym. We are excited to welcome 75+ post-secondary institutions from around the world onto our campus to answer questions and share important admissions information. Students and parents are welcome and encouraged to come and meet with reps - they're eager to meet our students! For more information, please click here.

University of Bristol Visit

On Tuesday, March 13, we will have professors from the following academic areas giving advice on courses and careers: Law, Management and Economics, Veterinary Science, Psychology, Engineering, Biomedical Sciences and the Faculty of Arts. This will be held in the 3/F common area from 12pm-1pm. G10s can get advice on HL/SL choices and G11s can get advice on suitable courses and entry requirements. All welcome.


With the motto, "Inspiring from within", CDNIS Talks are student presentations showcasing their experiences, talents, passions and ideas. While the LLAC is at full capacity for these events, you will be able to watch a live-stream here. This will take place on Wednesday, March 14 from 10:25am - 11:15am.

Save the Date ACT

CDNIS is an ACT test centre. Registration is simple and available through the online site, ACT. Students must create a free ACT web account. As CDNIS is an 'unlisted' test centre only students currently enrolled in CDNIS may register under the school's code. Please contact Ms. Lolita Schmalenberg directly if you are planning to sit this standardized test. The next test date Saturday, April 14, 2018.

BizSmart’s Silicon Valley Entrepreneurship Workshops

Join for six full days of being coached by a young, experienced and passionate director flying in from America. Topics covered include finance, sales, marketing, product design and business planning, including future ready skills for the jobs of tomorrow. Procedures for Reference Requests

When requesting references to summer school programmes, boarding schools or any other organizations, please use this online form. School policy is to use CDNIS reference material exclusively. The timeline for a referral is 10 working days and requests received within two weeks prior to a holiday period will be processed after the holiday. If you have questions, please contact your child’s counsellor directly.

Symphonic Winds Performance

Symphonic Winds will be playing at Hong Kong City Hall on Saturday, March 24. The Concert will start at 7:30pm. Please contact Ms. Jessy Po if you would like tickets. 

Spring into Reading and CISPA Book Swap

The Upper School Library's celebration of books and reading will happen the week of March 12-16, with a great lineup of events -including CISPA's annual US Book Swap, which will take place in the Forum on Tuesday, March 13. Refresh your personal library by swapping last year's favourite titles for a whole set of "new to you" books. Donations are also appreciated. Other events planned for the week range from an author visit to our second annual "Book Bee" literature quiz! Click here for all the details.
