Red & White Issue 2

The first issue of Red & White was a great success, as it celebrated a collection of stories of staff, students and alumni who represent our diverse CDNIS community. Well, issue two is back and it contains more stories than ever! A copy of the new publication has been handed out to each family, and it is also available online via the main school website. Also accompanying the magazine was a letter from Interim Head of School David Baird. Click here to read a digital version of the letter.


Parent Information Handbook & Start of School Guide

The CDNIS Parent Information Handbook, which also consists of the Start of School Guide, will be available Tuesday, June 6 via the main school website. New and existing families are advised to review various details in the publication as it features plenty of information that will help your children enjoy a smooth start to the 2017/2018 school year.


Welcome New Families

Welcome to CDNIS! Just a few housekeeping items for all new families joining CDNIS in August - @CDNIS email, iPad/MacBooks and orientation. All new parents should have have received an email regarding their @CDNIS parent email account and iPad/MacBook purchasing. If you have not received this email, please contact OneDoor. And if your child will be entering Grades 1-3 or 4-12, please make sure you have purchased an iPad or Macbook by Wednesday, May 31 through our school vendor. Questions can be directed to OneDoor. Details about new student/parent orientation events can be found in the Parent Inforamation Handbook. Please RSVP by Monday, July 31.


Summer Travels Postcard and Teddy Bear Adventures

Back by popular demand, it's the CDNIS Summer Travels Postcard and Teddy Bear Adventures! Last summer, the CDNIS Teddy Bear collected a lot of stamps in his passport over the summer - Norway, Abu Dhabi, Iceland and more! Wherever you are this summer, drop us a postcard at: CDNIS Summer Travels 2017, 36 Nam Long Shan Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong or take a picture (tell us where the picture was taken) and email it to us. We will post all the postcards and images on a BIG world map when school resumes.


25th Anniversary Commemorative Book

This beautiful coffee table book tells the story of Canadian International School of Hong Kong's first 25 years, from the first campus on Eastern Hospital Road up through to today. Filled with lots of photos, it's an important keepsake for current families, faculty, staff, alumni Governor's, Members - anyone who has been part of CDNIS. Click here to reserve your book today. 25th Anniversary Whole School Photo

The 25th Anniversary Whole School Photo is on sale! Families interested in purchasing it may do so by filling in the attached order form, and sending it to Techni Photo. The address is included in the attachment.


CDNIS Official Merchandise

Looking for a gift for friends back home? What about something special for your dad on Father's Day? Why not pick up a gift from the CDNIS Shop?! Be sure to get your hands on rare memorabilia including CDNIS-branded water bottles, pens, umbrellas, cufflinks and golf balls. Items on sale this week and available from the 9/F office. Details can be found right here. The CDNIS Business Club also has pennants ($15 and $25) and Swell waterbottles ($120) available for sale all this week - click here for the order form. The Merchandise Cart will be located outside the 9/F office all this week.


Sun Bus - Register Today

Register your child today for the 2017/2018 school bus service. To help Sun Bus to properly plan for the required service and routes, parents MUST register their children for the school bus service before Friday, June 30, in order to guarantee seating. Please visit the Sun Bus website to register your child.


Summer Programme Sign Up is Open

CDNIS Summer School has the reputation as being the place to be! This summer we are excited to offer new classes such as Innovation Lab (7-13yrs), Merry Mandarin (3-5yrs), Young Mad Scientists (10-13yrs) and IOS App Development (12+). Check out the programmes here and sign up today! Maple Cafe - Closed for the Summer

Maple Cafe and the school cafeteria will be closed for the summer. For students taking part in Summer School, please remember to pack a school lunch. Students may eat their lunch in the 6/F staff lounge and use the mircowaves. The air conditioning will be turned on when students are in the lounge.


Summer School - Multi Activity Programme for students aged 4-14.

The Multi Activity Summer programme is one of our most popular classes as CDNIS teachers guide students through three to four activities each morning for the week. Activities include creative, physical and extension activities. In week one we have ('DOGA - Dance/Yoga', 'Love the Drama' and 'Lost in the Lirbrary'). Multi Activity runs each week for eight weeks. ASA registration for Session 1 17/18

Ready, Set... Register! Enrolment for Session 1 2017-2018 starts today. The Session 1 Brochure is available on the CDNIS App and the ASA Website. We are happy to announce Top Flight as our new basketball provider as well as new activities such as filmmaking, Drama/Musical Theatre for Upper School and computer coding for kids! Registration ends on Friday, June 16.


iPad and MacBook Programme

A kind reminder for parents whose children are entering Grades 1-2 or 4-12, if you have not already done so, please place your child's iPad or MacBook order. Please also contact the LTT Department if you have any questions.


2017-2018 ASCCA Registration

Registration for the 2017-2018 ASCCA (After School Chinese Culture Academy) is now open. If you are interested in registering your child for the 2017-2018 ASCCA activities, including Chinese Orchestra, Chinese Choir, Chinese Dance and Chinese painting, please go to this link to register online.


1st Hong Kong Canadian Scout Group

Calling for new members! Are you looking for a little adventure? Then join SCOUTS! This year, nearly 100 young adults became a part of this fun, great group, which includes Beaver Scouts (Grade 1-2), Cub Scouts (Grades 3-5), Scouts (Grade 6-9) and Venturer Scouts (Grade 9-12). Competitive Swim Team Vision for 2017/18

One of our goals for 2017/18 is to create a Swim Team culture of participation, enjoyment and success. The swim competitions CDNIS focus on - ISSFHK and SEASAC - have new formats for 2017/18. CDNIS have also recruited great new swim coaches for the competitive swim programme. For an overview please view our Swim Team vision for 2017/18. This applies to our competitive Swim Team for Grade 5-12 students.


CDNIS Verbier Ski Trip CNY 2018 - 6 places left register asap.

CDNIS returns to Switzerland! The Grade 5-8/Grade 9-12 Ski trips will run February 15-24, 2018. This adventure includes six full days of skiing/snowboarding (with pro instructors) plus two days of cultural experiences in Switzerland. Our trip size is a maximum of 20 students and four staff. 2017/18 First Term Tuition Fee Deadline

2017/18 first term tuition fees is due on June 30, 2017. Invoices will be posted to the Parent Portal under NetClassroom>Billing starting June 1, 2017. For any parents who wish to pay the tuition fee through direct debit arrangement, please take a moment to fill out this Direct Authorisation Form from HSBC. Any inquiries can be directed to our Accounts Department.


Save the Date - CDNIS Golf Day

Join us for the 2nd Annual CDNIS Golf Day on Tuesday, November 21 at Shek O Country Club. All funds raised will go to support the CDNIS Annual Giving Campaign. Details will be released soon. Enjoy a great afternoon of golf and all skill levels are welcome. Watch this space!

Announcing the LS Musical for 2017-2018

The Lower School Performing Arts Department is excited to announce the LS Music for 2017-2018 will be Seussical Jr.! Performances will take place March 27 & 28, 2018. This whimsical story sends Dr. Seuss' best-loved characters colliding in an unforgettable musical caper. You can find more information about the production on the LS Musical Blog here.


Save the Afternoons -- LS Performing Arts Experiences 2017-2018

Next year the LS Performing Arts Department is excited to offer the following experiences for the 2017-2018 school year. As you organize your child's schedule for next year, keep the following after-school opportunities in mind! Treble Timbertones will meet Tuesdays, LS Strings Ensemble and LS Beginning Band will meet Wednesdays. LS Dance Troupe will meet on Thursdays. More information about joining each of these ensembles can be found here.


Progress Reports

The final Progress Reports for the school year for all LS students were published electronically on Friday, June 2 at 4pm via the Parent Portal. The system does not archive reports, so please remember to download and save a copy for future reference.


 

Upper School News

Experience Week 2017 (Grade 9-12)

In order to reduce stress at a very busy time of year, Experience Week will take place October 23-27. Because of the new timing, the registration process starts earlier with students attending the Experience Week Fair on Wednesday, June 7 and registering online before heading out for the summer. Please note that participation in Experience Week is mandatory for all Upper School students. The EW wesbite can be found at this link.


Awards Assemblies - Parents Welcome

The Grade 7 and 8 Awards Assembly has been rescheduled to Tuesday, June 6 at 10:15am in the LLAC. The Grade 9-11 Awards Assembly will be on Wednesday, June 7 at 10:05am in the LLAC. Parents are welcome to attend.


Tencent Bay Area Youth Camp August 7-13

Tencent Bay Area Youth Camp will be held August 7-13, which will give participants some first-hand experience in this leading tech company. We have 10 spots open for current Grade 9-11 MHL/MA students who are interested in technology innovation and possess good Chinese language proficiency. For camp details, please see attached brochure. Those interested must fill in this registration form, and pass it to their current Chinese teacher before June 6. We will offer the 10 spots based on teacher's recommendation. Please be aware that you will miss the first two days of the new school year if you are chosen to participate.


CDNIS is now an official ACT Test Centre!

Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, CDNIS will host the ACT, as we have the SAT, exclusively for our students. Dates, registration deadlines, and when one should consider sitting either test may be found in this document. Differences between the two tests, and how to decide which to sit, may be found in this document. See your guidance counsellor if you have questions.
