Reaching Out, Touching Lives
The foundation of any successful school is the close bond shared between students and teachers. With their commitment of learning from one another and a passion for making a difference, the CDNIS family is achieving excellence all around the world! In the fall, Jane Goodall's visit to CDNIS was certainly a highlight for everyone in our community and this week we follow up with the parents and staff who worked together on the Jane Goodall Silent Auction and how the funds they raised benefited the school's Roots & Shoots Club and the Jane Goodall Institute.
Lunar New Year Holiday - No EDD
Just a reminder - Thursday, January 26 is a regular day, so students will be dismissed at their normal time. Please note the CISPA calendar incorrectly marked this day as an Early Dismissal Day - January 26 is not an EDD. The holiday period runs January 27-February 6 for students, with classes resuming Tuesday, February 7. Gong Xi Fa Cai!
Shuttle Bus Service
The school is continuing to investigate the possibility of operating a shuttle bus service between Wong Chuk Hang MTR station and the school. CDNIS has been in touch with SIS and VSA, both of whom will not be offering a bus service. The school has also approached different bus companies to discuss the cost effectiveness of operating a shuttle bus service. We will update our community with more details when they become available. Thank you for your patience.
Parent Coffee Morning - CIS/WASC
Next week, CDNIS will host members of the CIS/WASC accreditation team as part of the initial visit. On Wednesday, January 18, Interim Head of School David Baird, Jon Adams and CIS/WASC officials will host a Parent Coffee Morning to discuss the CIS/WASC accreditation process. Parents who wish to attend may RSVP here. If parents have any specific questions they would like to see addressed on the morning, please enter them on the form or touch base with Jon Adams.

Easter Holiday Chinese Studies Programmes
During your Chinese New Year break, you might wish to start planning for your Easter holiday Chinese Studies programmes. This includes an exchange programme with Siyuan Primary School in Hainan, which will see 15 grade 4-6 students visit the school in China from April 9-15; as well as a number of IB Chinese Exam Prep courses for current G11/G12 MFL/MSL/MHL students during the Easter break.

Activities that are available this year include the Beijing Language B Mandarin Immersion Programme on June 9-23 (20 places for G4-11 students); Taiwan Language A Mandarin Immersion Programme on June 9-23 (30 places for G4-11 Mandarin A/MHL students); and the CDNIS on-campus Mandarin courses for Prep-G11 students that will be held between June and August.
ASA Programme and Providers
Every two years we review providers for almost all* of our After School Activities. Our goal is to have the best programme/best providers. If you have feedback about any of our current ASA providers or if you would like to recommend a new provider, or a new ASA, contact James Lovegrove. The review/tender process runs Jan-Feb for an August start. (*Gymnastics/Football ASA providers are reviewed January, 2018).
A gentle reminder that as the weather begins to chill, students are expected to still be in full uniform. If they arrive wearing sweaters and jackets that are not CDNIS uniform, they are expected to keep them in the lockers/cubbies during the day. Please take a moment to review the school uniform policy on page 39 of the Parent Information handbook. The campus uniform shop is open Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 8am-4pm.
Christmas Tree Decorations
If you have a few Christmas tree decorations and lights that are in great shape, but that you may no longer need, please consider donating them to CDNIS for our Christmas tree. A donation box has been set up in the 9/F lobby until Friday, January 13. We will put the decorations in storage and use them next year. Again, please only consider donating decorations that are in good shape and not broken.
