New issue of Red & White

The new issue of Red & White is here! You can read about articles related to the launch of Project Innovate, including stories about robotics in the grade 5 classroom, success in a public speaking competition, and an innovative new recycling project. A physical copy of the magazine is in the process of being sent home via your youngest child.


ASA Late Registration - January 12

While Session 2 ASAs kciked off January 6, there is still time to sign up. The ASA Programme at CDNIS has something for everyone and is open to both CDNIS and non-CDNIS students. Visit the ASA website for all the details. Late registration closes January 12.

Taking Action @ CDNIS

Lunar New Year Holiday - No EDD

Just a reminder - Wednesday, February 14 is a regular day, so students will be dismissed at their normal time. Please note the holiday period runs February 15-February 26 for students, with classes resuming Tuesday, February 27. Gong Xi Fa Cai!


CNY Festivities

We are busy preparing to welcome the Year of the Dog. Celebrate with us! Parents are welcome to attend out CNY Concert Dress Rehearsals (dates/times TBD). Everyone is encouraged to participate in our DDD February 12-14 for the LS and February 14 for the US. And you don't want to miss the CISPA CNY Flower Fair on Tuesday, February 13. Watch this space for details.


Sick Students - Please Stay Home

In view of the current cool weather in Hong Kong, we have noticed an increase in the number of ill students coming to school. Please do not send your child to school if they are feeling unwell, especially if their temperature is 37.5C or higher, or if they have a cough, runny nose, diarrhea or rash. Many thanks for helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment at CDNIS.


Coffee Morning Postponed

Due to a week-long Guidance event being held in the LLAC Lobby, the Senior Admin and Parent Coffee Morning scheduled for Tuesday, January 16 has been postponed. An alternate date will be announced in an upcoming issue of the Flash.


School Photos

All students should have brought home school photos before the Winter Break. If your child did not bring their photos home, please contact your child's homeroom teacher. If you would like a digital copy of your child's photo, require a re-take, or if your child did not have their photo taken and you like to have their individual photo taken, please email Techni-Photo directly to make the arrangements. Please note that photos will be taken at Techni-Photo's studio in Kowloon.


CDNIS Monopoly

We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the CDNIS bespoke Monopoly game, which is set to arrive before Chinese New Year. There is still time to order your game. The CDNIS Monopoly game features a totem pole, maple leaf and even Timba as tokens. Choose your token, place it on GO! and roll the dice as you make your way around the board which features the amazing CDNIS facilities. But don't get stuck in traffic along Nam Long Shan Road or you will be late for class. Games cost $400 each with proceeds going to the Annual Giving Campaign. Order your game today before it sells out!


Alumni London Reception

Calling all alumni currently in the London area. CDNIS will host a reception in London on Wednesday, January 17 at 7pm. The dinner will be held at The Eagle, 250 Ladbroke Grove, London W10 5LP. To RSVP, contact Alumni Coordinator Chris Niem.

CISPA - Engage with Innovative Technologies

On Thursday, January 25 parents get to explore and experience technologies at OneDoor. Test and learn about Virtual Reality, laser cutting and 3D printing. You can also learn how we can improve daily lives with iOS App Development. Date: Thursday, January 25. Venue: OneDoor. Time: 4:30pm-6:45pm. Light refreshments will be provided. There are seats for 30 adults. Contact Joey Wei to reserve your place early.

CISPA - Healthy Body Healthy Mind 2018

Need ideas for snacks and family meals? Join LS parents Mrs Jenny Lee and Mrs Alison Brock on Thursday, January 11 to for a pot luck morning tea to explore ways to improve our health through diet. CISPA - Used Uniform Donations

Please continue to donate your used uniforms, which can be left at the 9/F Security Desk. More sales in 2018. New uniform transition starts in April 2018, CISPA/USSC will continue to collect used uniform items that will no longer be part of the uniform. These items will be modified and donated to local Hong Kong schools (or neighbouring provinces).

Lower School News

9th Floor Playground Makers Workshop

Prep & Grade 1 students have been very busy designing their new Makers Workshop for the 9th floor playground. Specialist workshops run by Mr Tim Brown, Mr Leo Wong and Ms Aly Trezise in the new 12th floor innovation lab have engaged students in the process. In this new space they will be able to use tools to make and create wonderful inventions and explore the world in exciting new ways! So WATCH THIS SPACE!


Young Americans Are Here!

Welcome Young Americans to CDNIS! All Grade 6 students are participating in a 3-day workshop with an incredible combination of high-energy, team-building, confidence boosting fun! Using music as the tool, students will learn, explore, create, and grow! The workshop culminates with a concert featuring The Young Americans and Grade 6 students on Wednesday, January 10 from 6pm-7:30pm in the LLAC theatre. All are welcome to attend!


Sports Days for Grades 3-6

The Grade 5/6 sports day will take place on Tuesday, January 23 and the Grade 3/4 sports day will take place on Thursday, January 25th. Both Sports Days will be held at the Stanley Ho Sports Centre in Sandy Bay, Pok Fu Lam. Parents are welcome to attend and cheer for their children.


Talk by Chinese explorer Wong How Man

Chinese explorer Wong How Man and his educational director will be giving an inspiring talk to Grade 3 and Grade 1 students on Wednesday, January 10 from 9:30am-10:15am in the LLAC theatre. 


Parent Presentation for Pre Reception and Reception Parents

The Early Years teachers will be hosting a workshop about our PreRec and Rec learning programmes. There will be discussions about play-based learning and loose parts as well as an introduction to our newly designed Early Years Environment opening in the 2018-19 school year. Parent Presentation about Reading in Prep

Prep teachers will be presenting on reading and how Prep promotes the joy of reading. There will be specific examples of activities from the classes and how to promote a child’s reading development at home. Sports Opportunities for Lower School Students

Starting in January, all Lower School students have the opportunity to join new sports teams. U12 Rugby, U12 Netball, U12 Touch Rugby, U10 Basketball, Gymnastics and the Swim team all have places for Grade 4/5/6 students. For tryout dates, practices times and game schedules, view this document, or for more information visit the Timberwolves site. In February/March U12 Football, U12 Badminton, U12 Track and Field and Lower School Sailing will start.


Learning Reviews (Grades 1-6 only)

Learning Reviews will be held on Thursday, January 18 (3pm-6pm) and Friday, January 19 (8am-4pm). Student attendance is mandatory. January 19 is not a regular school day for Grades 1-6. Lower School House Days

Show your house spirit by participating in the Lower School House Days around the middle Friday of each month. Students can wear their PE uniforms and sit with others from their Houses at lunch. It’s an enjoyable and positive way to connect and build House community, and we look forward to a full showing of colours at the first Lower School House Day on Friday, ​January 12.

Symphonic Winds going to Band Camp

Symphonic Winds is involved in a Band Camp weekend at Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village, Ma On Shan on Friday, January 12 (after school) until Sunday, January 14 (afternoon). The purpose of this annual outing is to engage students in a series of varied rehearsals interspersed with student led team-building activities. 12 hours of rehearsals will ensure students have a fantastic start on new music for this performance season.


University Tours - Spring Break 2018

Calling all students interested in attending a university in California or the North East USA! Join us during Spring Break where we will tour some of the great schools in these regions and meet with admissions staff. Spaces are limited to sign up quickly. Tonight from 6:30pm-8pm at Chinese International School (Drama Studio), four top London universities - King's College London, Imperial, SOAS and University College London - will be presenting.
