Reaching Out, Touching Lives

The foundation of any successful school is the close bond shared between students and teachers. With their commitment of learning from one another and a passion for making a difference, the CDNIS family is achieving excellence all around the world! This week, we catch up with Secret Walls and the murals they helped us to create.

CDNIS is an IB World School that has exceeded the requirements for IB authorization. As mentioned in David Baird's letter to parents on December 5, CDNIS will start its IB and CIS/WASC self-studies this month. The school is participating in a combined 5-year evaluation visit for the PYP, MYP and DP this year, an opportunity which affords the school the chance to ensure all programmes are well aligned with one another and that students transition smoothly from one programme to the next. CDNIS remains fully authorized to offer the PYP, MYP and DP. Many schools around the world over the last 10 years have been combining the traditional IB three programme visits from the IB into one school visit. It takes enormous time and resources to prepare for programme reauthorizations and to host Team Visits, so combining the PYP, MYP and DP visits into one has met with success around the world. And over the next few years, a number of international schools will be combining CIS and IB reauthorizations into one visit. Look for information letters in the next week about our school visits over the next year and how the various visits work. Parents are encouraged to contact David BairdTim Kaiser or Helen Kelly if they have any questions about the three IB Programmes or the IB evaluation visit. Our students benefit directly from teachers who are supported in lifelong learning. See CDNIS and IB by the numbers by clicking here.

Lunar New Year Holiday

The Lunar New Year holiday is fast approaching. Thursday, January 26 is a regular day, so students will be dismissed at their normal time. Please note the CISPA calendar incorrectly marked this day as an Early Dismissal Day - January 26 is not an EDD. The holiday period runs January 27-February 6 for students, with classes resuming Tuesday, February 7. Gong Xi Fa Cai!

CNY Festivities

We are busy preparing to welcome the Year of the Rooster. Celebrate with us! Parents are welcome to attend our CNY Concert Dress Rehearsals (dates/times TBD). Everyone is also encouraged to participate in our DDD January 23-26 for the LS and January 26 for the US. And you don't want to miss the CISPA CNY Flower Fair on Tuesday, January 24. Watch this space for more details!

Yearbook Cover Contest

The Yearbook Club is holding a schoolwide competition for Yearbook Cover 2017. The title this year is "Year of Rooster" or "25th Anniversary." Submission deadline is January 9, 2017. All the details can be found right here.

Class of 2001 and Class of 2006 Reunions

Alumni from the Class of 2001 and Class of 2006 returned to CDNIS to celebrate their 15th and 10th anniversaries. It was the first time back on campus for a number of attendees, and the first time for all of them to see the new Chinese Cultural Centre and Green Roof.

Christmas Tree Decorations

If you have a few Christmas tree decorations and lights that are in great shape, but that you may no longer need, please consider donating them to CDNIS for our Christmas tree. A donation box has been set up in the 9/F lobby. We will put the decorations in storage and use them next year. Again, please only consider donating decorations that are in good shape and not broken.

Winter Uniforms

Winter uniforms are available from the uniform shop. A gentle reminder that as the weather begins to chill, students are expected to still be in full uniform. If they arrive wearing sweaters and jackets that are not CDNIS uniform, they are expected to keep them in the lockers/cubbies during the day. LS girls can wear white tights. US girls can wear black tights. Please take a moment to review the school uniform policy on page 39 of the Parent Information handbook. Please be reminded the campus shop is open Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 8am-4pm. The off-campus shop is located in Jordan and is open Monday-Saturday from 10am-6pm.

A Book by Emily Pong

Emily Pong takes a trip back in time, and shares some of the most memorable moments of her career at CDNIS. Aptly titled "Sharing with You", this book is a guaranteed page turner celebrating some of the funniest and wacky experiences that the long serving Head of Admissions has witnessed during her 24 years at CDNIS. "Donation Form" for your use.

25th Anniversary Merchandise

Back by popular demand - CDNIS 25th Anniversary suction mugs (with handle). Place your order using this form - items will be delivered to your child's homeroom. Click on the pre-order form link to find out more. All proceeds raised will be used to fund a number of exciting events and projects.

We look forward to the first LS House Day on Friday, January 13.
