CNY Celebrations

The Year of the Rooster has arrived! Check out some of the fun everyone at CDNIS had during our 2017 CNY celebrations.

CDNIS on Instagram

We are now on Instagram! Are you? Check CDNIS out on Instagram and share any pictures you may take around our campus. Use the hashtag #cdnishk or #cdnisls. We'd love to see what our students, staff and parents are doing at school events, in classes, on the court, on the field, on the stage, and anywhere else the CDNIS community is active. You can also check us out on FacebookTwitter and YouTube.

HOS Search: Parent Listening Sessions

On January 20, the Search Committee emailed all parents updating them on the search for the permanent Head of School (HOS). As the Board communicated in December, the Board began by assembling a Search Committee to oversee this process and selected a Search Consultant, Triangle Associates/HeadsUp, to work with us. This is the same Search Consultant that worked with us on our Interim Head search and knows our community intimately. Please take a moment to read the letter, which includes details about the listening/input sessions. There will also be an online survey after CNY for those of you unable to attend a session. Please contact the Search Committee with questions.

We hope to see many parents at the event March 9. Please wear your pink wristbands, which were distributed last year. The event will go ahead rain or shine. Watch this space for more details.

Student Letter of Recommendation Requests

The process for letters of recommendations can be found on pages 51-52 of the Parent Handbook. The policy, finalized at the end of last year, is that the letters of recommendation are processed through our Guidance Counselors. Our school has a designated form for such purposes and it is our practice that no other form will be submitted on behalf of students. Please review the information in the handbook.

Lower School News

Message from Lower School Principal

Lower School Principal Helen Kelly reached out to parents before the holiday period to update them on a project that will shape future learning at CDNIS. Take a moment to read her letter which was sent to parents on January 25.

Attention Pre Reception and Reception Parents

Please note that all Pre Reception and Reception students attend school as normal on Friday, February 17. This day is not a PDD for Pre Reception and Reception teachers, as mentioned in the CISPA calendar. Please contact Lisa Kipfer with any questions.

Grade 6 Artist in Residence: The Young Americans

We are so excited to welcome back the Young Americans from February 6-10! All Grade 6 students are participating in a 3-day workshop with an incredible combination of high-energy, team-building, confidence boosting fun! Using music as the tool, students will learn, explore, create, and grow! The workshop will culminate with a concert including The Young Americans and all of the Grade 6s. Learn more about this amazing troupe or check out one of their past shows at CDNIS.

Grade 6 Band

Mrs. Butler will be offering a Grade 6 Beginning Band after school every Tuesday from 2:30pm-3:45pm. This ensemble is for students to learn the fundamentals of playing a band instrument, practice ensemble skills, and participate in a performance for their peers and parents. If your child is interested in being a part of the band, please have them complete this form and make arrangements to come to Mrs. Butler's room between February 7-15.

House Days

In order to build House spirit and identity in the Lower School, we are holding LS House Days in the middle Friday of each month. Students are asked to wear their PE uniform and house shirts, and at lunch time the cafeterias will be organized so that students can eat with others in their Houses. We look forward to our next LS House Day on Friday, February 10.

Reminder to LS Parents; respecting our hallways as learning spaces

We have noted an increase of parents coming to meet their children at classroom at the end of the day, particularly on the 10/F, as opposed to waiting to meet as requested on the 9/F. Please bear in mind that we use our hallways for various purposes with students, and also to avoid congestion parents are requested to await their children at the 9/F foyer. Thank you for your understanding.

Grade 6 Slide Presentation

The Grade 6-7 Transition slide presentation shown at the parent evening on January 19 is now posted on the Upper School website, available via the Parent Information Sessions link on the right hand side of the page. The slideshow is also available through the Middle Years Communicator website via the Parent Information Evenings link at the top.

Upper School News

Attention Grade 9 and 10 Students and Parents

We are pleased that three CDNIS students have received offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge this year. While we know not every student wishes to study at either of these schools, we do know that many do, and we also know how selective they are. The US Guidance Department is holding an information session for those interested in applying to Oxbridge on Tuesday, February 14 at 2:30pm in the LLAC Lobby. Please RSVP here or contact your Guidance counsellor for more information. This event is for CDNIS families only.

Higher Education Fair

CDNIS graduates have a solid reputation with college admissions officers from around the world, and because of this, we host more than 300 university visits each year starting in September. The US Guidance Team invites all interested students and their parents to our annual global Higher Education Fair on Friday, March 10. This will be an excellent opportunity for students and their parents to further research their university options, no matter what stage you are in the university process. This event is open to both CDNIS and non-CDNIS students and parents. There is no need to RSVP. Please contact the Guidance Office with any questions.

MYP and DP Communicators

Middle Years Programme Communicator and Diploma Programme Communicator websites contain valuable information for Upper School parents about the calendars, curriculum, programme and more. The parent night presentation slide shows can also be found on these websites, which are linked to the Upper School Site.
