2018/2019 Start of School Guide - It's Here!
The 2018/2019 Start of School Guide can be found in the School Brochures section of the the main school website. Questions, email Winnie McCarthy for the Lower School or Winnie Kong for the Upper School.
2018-2019 Parent Information Handbook
The 2018-2019 Parent Information Handbook is available now under the School Brochures section of the main school website. Everything you need to know - the school calendar, how to order uniforms, bussing details, CDNIS acronyms and more - can be found in the guide. A hard copy will be sent home to each family this week.
For those of you whose children use the school bus service, if your child takes a different bus due to an ASA or another school related activity, please let KCM know by sending them a quick email. While the school does share the names of children registered in ASAs with KCM, it would also be helpful for parents to let KCM know as well if their child is not taking their normal 2:35pm bus. Thank you for your cooperation. Parents are also welcome to use the school bus service, with priority going to those volunteering at the school.
Parent ID Passes
New parents are welcome to stop by the 10/F library the next time they are on campus to have their photo taken for their Parent ID pass. Cards will be ready approximately two weeks after your photo has been taken. Parents must wear their Parent ID pass at all times when they are on campus. This is for security reasons, and all adults present in school are required to display their ID pass with the correct colour lanyard. Parents with old red lanyards can get a new blue ones at the 9/F office.
Guardian ID Passes
All adults on campus are required to wear an identification badge and ensure it is clearly visible at all times. This includes helpers and grandparents who are in school to pick up students. For families who have changed helpers, please return the old guardian ID pass to the main office and have your new helper apply for a new one. For returning and new families who require guardian ID passes, please fill out this application form. Guardians can have their photos taken for their ID pass tentatively the week of August 27. Please read Flash next week for details.
Dengue Fever in Hong Kong
As some of you may have heard, the Lion Rock Country Park has been closed for 30 days to clear mosquitoes due to reported cases of Dengue Fever in Hong Kong. The Dengue virus is spread by several species of mosquitoes of the Aedes genus. At the school, we will take an active role in monitoring areas around the campus and will keep in contact with Health Authorities for further steps, if necessary. Meanwhile, all our teachers are taking additional precautions when planning outside field trips. Here is a link for additional information on Dengue.

Please find relevant information for the trip here. If you are interested, please contact Alex Wright or Keren Glazier. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
Traffic and Safety
We work hard to make CDNIS a safe environment. Since there is no public parking at CDNIS and no parking along Nam Long Shan Road, we encourage students/parents to use the school bus. If you are driving to school, please follow the directions of our security guards. Lower School students get dropped @ 9/F entrance, Upper School students/taxis @ LLAC.
Please take a moment to review the school's weather policy, which can also be found on pages 47-49 of the Parent Information Handbook. School closures are communicated via the main school website and mobile app. Additional information is also listed on the EDB website.
The school is looking to install solar panels, and also introduce a carbon offset programme and a composting programme. If there are parents who have connections with solar panel companies or are involved in the industry, we would love to hear from you. A few years back our school had a proposal for up to HK$1million to install solar panels, however the grant was for a company which has changed hands, so the grant is no longer valid. It’s important to show our students that a carbon-based future is not viable and to encourage them to research other options. Please let our Head of School know if you can help out.
New Initiatives: Student Information Management System
The school will soon roll out a new student information management system called Veracross. Some of the modules are already up and running and we will introduce the new Parent Portal in about a month. Parents will receive an email to their school account inviting them to sign in. Watch this space for details.
Attention Returning Parents: Progress Reports
With the new Parent Portal set to roll out in the coming weeks, the old Parent Portal will be deactivated. Please take a moment to go into the portal and download your child's past progress reports as these reports will not carry forward to the new portal. Parents will have until end of day Monday, August 27 to download the reports. Having trouble logging in, please email OneDoor.
