HOS Search Update

The Search Committee is pleased to announce that two finalist candidates have been selected for the Head of School position, and the candidates will be visiting CDNIS April 11-12 and April 23-24. Further details, including sign-up details for the parent 'meet and greet' sessions', can be found in the email which was sent to all parents on Thursday, March 29.

CIS/WASC Visit Parent Group

From April 15-20, representatives from CIS/WASC will visit our school as the culmination of the Self Study. An important part of this is a meeting with parents to discuss the school's strengths and areas where we can grow. Please consider signing up for this meeting which will be held on Monday, April 16 from 2pm-3pm. Please sign up here by Wednesday, April 11. Any questions, email Jon Adams.

IB Art Grad Exhibition

The annual IB DP Art grad exhibition, Odyssey, opens Tuesday, April 10 in the LLAC. Come and view the amazing works our incredibly talented Grade 12 students have created over the past two years. You will see sculpture, painting, photography, video, drawing, animation and much more. It is always a standout event on the school calendar, so don't miss out!

GreenWeek 2018

With Earth Day on Sunday, April 22, CDNIS will be celebrating all things environmental with our 4th whole school GreenWeek event from Monday, April 23 - Saturday, April 28 with hands-on workshops, a visual art exhibition, GreenWeek Cinema, "Swap, Not Shop" clothing pop-up, a local organic 'farmers market', a plastic-free sale and field-trips!  See the whole calendar here! Screenagers Screening

We will be showing Screenagers to our CDNIS community on Thursday, April 12. In the morning Grade 5-9 students will watch this important documentary about the prevalence of social media and digital screens in our children's lives. A parent screening, followed by a panel discussion, will take place at the LLAC Theatre at 6:30pm. Please RSVP here.

Summer School 2018

The CDNIS Summer School programme is about to be released. There really is something for everyone; Maths to Maker Space, Punching to Politics, Irish Sports to Inspirational Authors, Crafts to Cooking, Friendship Skills to Math Functions, Space and beyond. Plus the returning favourites Multi Activity, Kindergarten Fun, Swim, Gymnastics and Soccer. Watch the Flash for sign up details in the coming weeks. 

New Ways We Are "Taking Action" @ CDNIS!

SEASAC Softball, Badminton and Gymnastics - Making CDNIS Proud

Congratulations to our five awesome SEASAC Teams in action during in March. We really couldn't be any prouder of their SEASAC Gymnastics (Silver and Bronze), SEASAC Softball (Girls Silver, Boys Bronze + SEASAC Sportsmanship) and SEASAC Badminton (SEASAC Sportsmanship). For all the results please visit the Timberwolves website.

CDNIS Gold, Silver and Bronze at T&F Championships

We’re proud of our awesome results at the ISSFHK Track and Field Championships. But, we’re even prouder that our Track and Field programme combines our LS and US students into one supportive team. It was great to see Grade 11/12s looking after Grade 3/4s and Grade 3/4s looking up to superb role models like Charlie and Danielle. CDNIS proud to make a Splash... with Splash Foundation

We are proud to be associated with Splash Foundation and the incredible work they do in our pool. Last month, a Splash Dash relay was held in our pool. This is a great example of CDNIS living its mission; making a difference through local and global engagement. Thanks Splash and thanks CDNIS. Congratulations to the CDNIS Swim team for winning the team award.

CDNIS College Clinic

The CDNIS US Guidance Team are offering a College Clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm-5pm for any member of the CDNIS Community. For more information, please contact Rob Aldridge or Scott Atherton in the US Guidance Office. All consultations will be confidential and offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Parent Liaison Committee

This is the third year since the Board of Governors has re-established the Parent Liaison Committee (PLC). The PLC is a multi-stakeholder Committee, comprised of Governors, Parents, and School Administrators. The PLC serves as a communication channel between parents and the Board of Governors. To contact the PLC, please email Parent Liaison Committee using your @CDNIS parent email account.

Weather Policy

Please take a moment to review the school’s weather policy. School closures are communicated via the main school website. The weather policy can also be found in the Parent Information Handbook (pg 57-59). Additional information is also listed on the EDB website.

Parent ID Badges

Please remember to wear your parent ID badge when at school - including weekends. To help in better identifying people when they are on the campus, staff, parents, guardians and visitors have a special coloured lanyard to accompany their ID card. Please ensure your ID badge is clearly displayed at all times when you are on the campus. Questions – please see Jon Adams.

Emergency Evacuation Information

Parents and visitors, do you know where to go if the fire alarm rings when you are in the building? If you are with a class, follow them out. If you are at the Maple Cafe or 6/F cafeteria, head across the pitch, up the LLAC stairs and out to the parent/visitor waiting area located right out front of the school. Watch this student made video to find out where to go. Restricted Access to 9/F Roundabout

Please note that in order to take the annual Grade 12 all class photo in front of the school, taxis and private vehicles will not be permitted access to the 9/F roundabout from 7:40am-8am on Thursday, April 26. Private vehicles and taxis will be directed towards the LLAC roundabout. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Sick Students - Please Stay Home

Please do not send your child to school if they are feeling unwell, especially if their temperature is 37.5C or higher, or if they have a cough, runny nose, diarrhea or rash. As recommended by the CHP, Department of Health, we strongly advise parents to check their child's temperature before going to school. Please remember to email the school nurse if your child does not come to school because they are ill. Many thanks for helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment at CDNIS.

Lower School News

Attention AM Pre Reception and Reception Parents - No School

Please note Pre Reception AM and Reception AM students do not come to school on Friday, May 11. This only applies to the AM classes. Students in the PM sessions have school as normal.

Student Led Learning Reviews (SLLR): Prep - Grade 5

Student Led Learning Reviews (SLLR) will be be hosted on Friday, April 27 (Prep to Grade 5). Parents can begin making their SLLR appointments Monday, April 16 (families with 2+ children in the LS) and Wednesday, April 18 (all other LS families). Please click here for more details on the purpose of SLLR and instructions for accessing the online scheduling system. 

U12 Soccer Tryouts this week

Boys Tuesday, April 10 from 2:30pm-3:45pm and Thursday, April 12 from 2:30pm-3:45pm on the 6/F. Regular Practice Tuesday. Coach Justin Wah. Girls: Wednesday, April 11 2:30pm-3:45pm on the 6/F. Regular practices Wednesday. Coach Eddie Polawski.

Sign-up to audition for Student Showcases

Calling all performers! We are looking for talented Prep-Grade 6 students to perform in the Student Showcases on May 23-25. Auditions will be held after school in the Forum on Thursday, April 19 and Friday, April 20. If your child is interested, sign them up to audition here. The last day to sign up is Friday, April 13. Save the Date - 1:1 Device Parent Info Meetings

Two 1:1 parent info meetings this year will be held in the morning on Monday, May 7. The Grade 4 1:1 Laptop parent info session (for current Grade 3 parents) is in the library pit from 8am-9am. The Grade 1 1:1 iPad parent info session (for current Prep parents) is in the library pit from 9am-10am. Invitations including RSVP will be sent out in April.

Upper School News

Class of 2018 Valedictorian

Congratulations to Justin and Kenneth Leung who were selected by their peers as the Class of 2018 Valedictorians. Members of the Class of 2018 nominated their peers and following two rounds of voting, Justin and Kenneth were selected. Given the high standards of student leadership at CDNIS, this recognition is considered a great honour. We look forward to hearing Justin and Kenneth address their classmates at Graduation on Friday, May 25.

Grade 12: Grad save the date, updates

Difficult to believe, but the Class of 2018 Graduation is approaching! Grade 12 parents, please save the date of Friday, May 25, and note the new start time this year of 5pm. We will be sending occasional updates regarding Grad Week and preparations leading up to it; these will come to parents' CDNIS email addresses (name@cdnis.hk) so please do keep an eye out for these messages. 

Grade 9 - 11 Exam Schedule (May & June 2018)

The Grade 9-11 Final Exam schedule is now available for students and parents to download. Further details about exams, including specific room locations, will be published in May.

University of Alberta Scholarship

Reminder about the information session on the Dr. John Poon Award and Scholarship in Business. This fantastic opportunity is available only to CDNIS graduates with scholarship money up to the full amount of domestic or international tuition for three full years at the University of Alberta School of Business. The scholarship also comes with a Hong Kong homecoming travel allowance and an opportunity to visit the University of Alberta School of Business while still a student at CDNIS. To hear more about this generous offer exclusive to CDNIS students, you are cordially invited to join Dr. John Poon, CDNIS Upper School Administration, and G10 and G11 Business and Economics students on Friday, April 13 at the Leo Leo Arts Centre Auditorium at 11am. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Joseph Doucet, Dean of the Alberta School of Business, and  Dr. Edy Wong will be on hand to share with CDNIS information about their programme and how it connects with this wonderful scholarship opportunity. Our guests will also be available in the Level 5 Guidance Office at 10am, at 12 noon, and 2pm to meet with parents and students who are unable to make the presentation or have specific questions. 

Jockey Club Scholarship

The Jockey Club Scholarship is an annual award presented to three students who will be completing Grade 11 in June this year and attending CDNIS in their graduating year. The scholarship will be the tuition fee for the 2018/2019 academic year. Criteria for the award include academic achievement as well as leadership and contribution to the CDNIS community. To apply for the Jockey Club Scholarship, candidates must submit a signed application to Ms. Elsa Fung in the Guidance Office by Friday, April 20

The George Washington University Visits CDNIS

On Thursday, April 12 The George Washington University will be in Guidance at lunchtime. Students and parents are welcome to stop by and ask questions.


Monash University STEAM Seminar

Monash University (Australia) has organised a seminar on the theme “Why does STEAM matter?” on Tuesday, April 17 from 7pm-9pm. It will be held at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, 15 Queen’s Road, Central, Hong Kong. To register, please click here


Liberal Arts Colleges visiting Hong Kong

Admission Officers from Bowdoin, Haverford, Vassar, and Wesleyan will be offering a programme highlighting the incredible educational experience offered at a Liberal Arts College. The programme includes presentations from each of the institutions, general information about the selective admission process, the advantages of a liberal arts education in the workforce, and the opportunity to speak with each institution. This takes place on Monday, April 30, at 6pm at VSA. To register, click here.

Public presentation: Stanford, Harvard, Dartmouth, Wellesley

On Monday, April 9 (first day back from Spring Break) from 7pm-8:30pm, Stanford, Harvard, Dartmouth, Wellesley will hold an information sessions for interested HK students and parents. The event will take place at Diocesan Girls' School in Kowloon; please RSVP in advance at this site

OSSD Summer School Programme

CDNIS is offering students the chance to earn formal OSSD Grade 11 and 12 credits through an accelerated Summer School Programme (Math, English, Politics & Science). Students currently in Grades 10 and 11 are eligible to participate. All courses take three weeks and will run from June 12-29. The fee for CDNIS students is HK$13,000. Parents can find more details and pre-register here.

Cambridge Summer School

If your child aged 15-18 is free this summer the the Cambridge Summer School may be an excellent option. For more information, including course details and how to sign up, please visit the programme website. Registration is open now and filling up fast!

McGill Summer Academy

For the first time, McGill University will be offering a summer academy outside of Canada. This program offers learning opportunities for students aged 15-19 that foster curiosity about the natural, physical and social phenomena and prepare them for continuing learning at university. Programmes will run from August 1-6 from 9am-3:45pm. BizSmart’s Silicon Valley Entrepreneurship Workshops

Join for six full days of being coached by a young, experienced and passionate director flying in from America. Topics covered include finance, sales, marketing, product design and business planning, including future ready skills for the jobs of tomorrow. Procedures for Reference Requests

When requesting references to summer school programmes, boarding schools or any other organizations, please use this online form. School policy is to use CDNIS reference material exclusively. The timeline for a referral is 10 working days and requests received within two weeks prior to a holiday period will be processed after the holiday. If you have questions, please contact your child’s counsellor directly.
