No School on May 1 and May 22

Just a reminder that there is no school on Tuesday, May 1 due to Labour Day and Tuesday, May 22 due to Buddha's Birthday.


Bus Registration for 2018/19

Parents are able to register for the bus service for the 2018/19 school year via the Kwoon Chung Motors website here. The deadline for registering is Friday, May 18. Due to the change in bus service provider, all students intending to take the bus next year must register by May 18. Please note that bus routes are still being finalised, and may be amended depending on demand.


School Uniform Update

Thank you to the Uniform Committee for conducting a thorough, year long process from reviewing our current uniforms to the approval of minor changes in fabric and design. Here are the updated photos of the uniforms. While it was hoped some items would be available before the end of this year, minor design details are still taking place. New and old uniforms will be available in August for the 2018/19 school year. Students will be expected to wear new uniforms for the 2019/20 school year. 


Development and Alumni Affairs Manager

The school is looking to hire the right person – possibly a parent – to be the Development and Alumni Affairs Manager. This person will be responsible for developing and implementing the school’s fundraising programme, including coordinating with various parent groups and companies so a successful fund can be initiated. Summer School 2018

The CDNIS Summer School programme has been released. There really is something for everyone; Maths to Maker Space, Punching to Politics, Irish Sports to Inspirational Authors, Crafts to Cooking, Friendship Skills to Math Functions, Space and beyond. Plus the returning favourites Multi Activity, Kindergarten Fun, Swim, Gymnastics and Soccer. For all the details, please take a look at the programme details here, and sign up by clicking here.


HandsOnHK and their Serve-athon needs you

CDNIS is supporting Hong Kong’s community service week, Serve-a-thon, which sees 150 volunteer activities taking place across the city. Families can sign up for one of the activities as a fantastic way to introduce your child to service for poverty & hunger related issues: Saturday, May 5 @ Pokfulam, Hong Kong Island, Saturday, May 12 @ Cheung Sha Wan, Kowloon, or Saturday, May 12 Sha Tin, New Territories.


CDNIS College Clinic

The CDNIS US Guidance Team are offering a College Clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm-5pm for any member of the CDNIS Community. For more information, please contact Rob Aldridge or Scott Atherton in the US Guidance Office. All consultations will be confidential and offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Parent ID Badges

Please remember to wear your parent ID badge when at school - including weekends. To help in better identifying people when they are on the campus, staff, parents, guardians and visitors have a special coloured lanyard (available from the 9/F office) to accompany their ID card. Please ensure your ID badge is clearly displayed at all times when you are on the campus. Questions – please see Jon Adams.


Shuttle Bus Service Ending

Due to the low ridership of the shuttle bus service between the Wong Chuk Hang MTR station and CDNIS, the service will be suspended at the end of the 2017/2018 school year. A full refund will be available for all un-used shuttle bus tickets starting next month. Details will be announced in Flash.

Class List for 2018-19 School Year

If there are any extenuating circumstances relating to your child's needs that could impact his/her class placement please complete this form before Friday, May 4. We ask that you refrain from making personal requests to select or avoid certain teachers. As per CDNIS policy, such requests will not be considered. Please reference these FAQs if you wish to learn more.

 


Attention AM Pre Reception and Reception Parents - No School

Please note Pre Reception AM and Reception AM students do not come to school on Friday, May 11. This only applies to the AM classes. Students in the PM sessions have school as normal.


Save the Date - 1:1 Device Parent Info Meetings

Two 1:1 parent info meetings this year will be held on Monday, May 7. The Grade 4 1:1 Laptop parent info session (for current Grade 3 parents) is in the Library Pit from 8am-9am. The Grade 1 1:1 iPad parent info session (for current Prep parents) is in the Library pit from 9am-10am. Invitations have been sent out to parents. Another copy of the letters is available here for Grade 3 parents and here for Prep parents.


April DDD Recognised Theme: Friday, May 4

May the 4th be with you! This month's theme will be dress as your favourite Star Wars character! All donations will benefit Hong Kong Make-A-Wish. This organisation works to grant wishes and spread joy to children who have critical illnesses. More information about the organization can be found on their website.


Lower School DDD and FFF Change

Please note the April Dress Down Day (DDD) and Friday Fun in the Forum (FFF) will be recognised on May 4 due to the Student Led Learning Reviews and PYP Exhibition being held on April 27.


Old Electrical Items Collection

Makerspaces need items to tinker with. We are collecting the following items: toys, remote controlled, with moving parts, sounds or lights. Hand-held appliances, battery or electrical output. Please do not send in old phones, items with glass or corroded batteries, or tv/computer monitors. Please drop the items off in The Hive on the 12/F.

Upper School News

Grade 9 - Prepare for the Oxbridge Application Talk

Mr Aldridge, from the Guidance Team, will present a talk to Grade 9 students who would like to prepare well for a possible application to Oxford or Cambridge. Students and parents from all grades are welcome to register, though this is aimed at G9s. This talk will take place on Thursday, May 3 at 3pm in Guidance (Room 510). Sign up here.


Cornell, UChicago visit to CDNIS

Representatives from Cornell University and University of Chicago are coming to CDNIS to meet with interested students and parents. This is a great opportunity to meet directly with two of the top universities in the USA. The visit will take place on Tuesday, May 8 at 9:45am in the US Guidance office (rm.510). CDNIS parents are welcome to attend as well. Please RSVP at this link to indicate your attendance.


Bowdoin, Haverford, Wesleyan, Vassar presentation

Meet with the reps from four highly regarded American colleges: Bowdoin, Haverford, Wesleyan, and Vassar - they're coming to CDNIS! They will be in Guidance during lunch Monday 30 April12:15pm-1:15pm. No sign up is necessary, just come to the Guidance office to learn about these four terrific schools! Parents are welcome too.


Reserve your spot - MYP Production

Tickets for the MYP Production 'Playing From The Heart' are now available. The show takes place in the LLAC Lobby and runs Thursday May 3 @ 3:30pm, Friday, May 4 @ 7pm and Saturday, May 5 @ 7pm. Reserve your tickets here. The show is about 90 minutes in length and is appropriate for all ages. See you there!


Grade 9 - 11 Exam Schedule (May & June 2018)

The Grade 9-11 Final Exam schedule is now available for students and parents to download. Further details about exams, including specific room locations, will be published in May.


Merrimack College visiting Guidance Office

Stop by Guidance on Monday, May 7 to learn about this fantastic American school! Parents are welcome. This session takes place from 12:15pm-1:15pm in the Guidance Office (room 510).


Liberal Arts Colleges visiting Hong Kong

Admission Officers from Bowdoin, Haverford, Vassar, and Wesleyan will be offering a programme highlighting the incredible educational experience offered at a Liberal Arts College. The programme includes presentations from each of the institutions, general information about the selective admission process, the advantages of a liberal arts education in the workforce, and the opportunity to speak with each institution. This takes place on Monday, April 30, at 6pm at VSA. To register, click here.


Cornell and UChicago information session

Cornell University and the University of Chicago will hold a public information session on Monday, May 7 from 7pm-8pm (doors will open at 6:30pm). The event will be held at The University of Chicago Center in Hong Kong, Level 6, Cyberport 2, 100 Cyberport Road. No RSVP is needed.


University of Sydney Open Day in HK

The University of Sydney is coming to Hong Kong again to host an annual Open Day for interested HK students and parents. The event takes place on Sunday, 6 May from 1pm-4pm at the Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay. For more information and to register, click here


Grade 12: Grad save the date, updates

The Class of 2018 Graduation is approaching! Grade 12 parents, please save the date of Friday, May 25, and note the new start time this year of 5pm. We will be sending occasional updates regarding Grad Week and preparations leading up to it; these will come to parents' CDNIS email addresses (name@cdnis.hk) so please do keep an eye out for these messages. 


OSSD Summer School Programme

CDNIS is offering students the chance to earn formal OSSD Grade 11 and 12 credits through an accelerated Summer School Programme (Math, English, Politics & Science). Students currently in Grades 10 and 11 are eligible to participate. All courses take three weeks and will run from June 12-29. The fee for CDNIS students is HK$13,000. Parents can find more details here and register by clicking here.


Cambridge Summer School

If your child aged 15-18 is free this summer the the Cambridge Summer School may be an excellent option. For more information, including course details and how to sign up, please visit the programme website. Registration is open now and filling up fast!


McGill Summer Academy

For the first time, McGill University will be offering a summer academy outside of Canada. This program offers learning opportunities for students aged 15-19 that foster curiosity about the natural, physical and social phenomena and prepare them for continuing learning at university. Programmes will run from August 1-6 from 9am-3:45pm. BizSmart’s Silicon Valley Entrepreneurship Workshops
