Just a reminder that there is no school on Tuesday, May 1 due to Labour Day and Tuesday, May 22 due to Buddha's Birthday.

Summer School 2018

The CDNIS Summer School programme has been released. There really is something for everyone; Maths to Maker Space, Punching to Politics, Irish Sports to Inspirational Authors, Crafts to Cooking, Friendship Skills to Math Functions, Space and beyond. Plus the returning favourites Multi Activity, Kindergarten Fun, Swim, Gymnastics and Soccer. For all the details, please take a look at the programme details here, and sign up by clicking here.

Bus Registration for 2018/19

Parents are able to register for the bus service for the 2018/19 school year via the Kwoon Chung Motors website here. The deadline for registering is Friday, May 18. Please note that bus routes are still being finalised, and may be amended depending on demand.

Change of School Bus Service Provider

Starting the next school year, Kwoon Chung Motors (KCM) will resume as the school's transportation provider. Further details were shared in a letter to parents on April 10. In order to facilitate the transition, if parents have any questions or suggestions regarding the school bus service, please submit them using this School Bus Parent Feedback Form. The school will pass all parent queries to KCM by Friday, April 27.

Restricted Access to 9/F Roundabout

Please note that in order to take the annual Grade 12 all class photo in front of the school, taxis and private vehicles will not be permitted access to the 9/F roundabout from 7:40am-8am on Thursday, April 26. Private vehicles and taxis will be directed towards the LLAC roundabout. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Ordering School Lunch

The May to June lunch order form and menus are available on the main school website, in School Brochures. Parents can order meals by filling out the form and dropping it off, with payment, in the 6/F Cafeteria or by mail to CDNIS by Friday, April 27. Any questions can be directed to Maxim's via email or by calling 2240 6052.

Class of 2018: Offers to Universities

Members of the Class of 2018 are continuing to receive great news from various leading universities around the world. Take a moment to review the offers our students have received so far (as of April 20).


Last week, CDNIS hosted 13 visitors from CIS and WASC for our Accreditation Visit. The visiting team commented extensively on the positive and warm community at CDNIS. Many areas were highlighted by the team including the teaching and learning, student engagement and supportive parents. Looking ahead, CIS and WASC will review the reports and share a final recommendation on our Accreditation status within the next 8-10 weeks. 

Parents in School

Parents and helpers are reminded not to congregate in the 10/F hallway leading to the LLAC. In addition, please avoid taking photos or videos of the 9/F playground. Do refer to this previous letter from LS admin on parents in school.

Shuttle Bus Service Ending

Due to the low ridership of the shuttle bus service between the Wong Chuk Hang MTR station and CDNIS, the service will be suspended at the end of the 2017/2018 school year. A full refund will be available for all un-used shuttle bus tickets starting next month. Details will be announced in Flash.

CDNIS College Clinic

The CDNIS US Guidance Team are offering a College Clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm-5pm for any member of the CDNIS Community. For more information, please contact Rob Aldridge or Scott Atherton in the US Guidance Office. All consultations will be confidential and offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Weather Policy

Please take a moment to review the school’s weather policy. School closures are communicated via the main school website. The weather policy can also be found in the Parent Information Handbook (pg 57-59). Additional information is also listed on the EDB website.

Parent ID Badges

Please remember to wear your parent ID badge when at school - including weekends. To help in better identifying people when they are on the campus, staff, parents, guardians and visitors have a special coloured lanyard to accompany their ID card. Please ensure your ID badge is clearly displayed at all times when you are on the campus. Questions – please see Jon Adams.

Lower School News

Student Led Learning Reviews (SLLRs)

A reminder that there will be no regular classes for Prep to Grade 5 students on Friday, April 27 due to Student Led Learning Reviews. All students are expected to engage in a SLLR with their parents on this day. If you have not yet scheduled an appointment, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.  

Grade 6 PYP Exhibition

The CDNIS community is invited to engage our Grade 6 students in discussion about their PYPx inquiries into Sharing the Planet. Students will be available on Thursday, April 26 and Friday, April 27 in the Library and LLAC Lobby. The Opening Ceremony will be in the LLAC Theatre on Thursday, April 26 at 6:30pm.


Class Lists for 2018-19 School Year

If there are any extenuating circumstances relating to your child's needs that could impact his/her class placement please complete this form before Friday, May 4. We ask that you refrain from making personal requests to select or avoid certain teachers. As per CDNIS policy, such requests will not be considered. Please reference these FAQs if you wish to learn more.

Lower School DDD and FFF Change

Please note the April Dress Down Day (DDD) and Friday Fun in the Forum (FFF) will be recognised on May 4 due to the Student Led Learning Reviews and PYP Exhibition being held on April 27.

Attention AM Pre Reception and Reception Parents - No School

Please note Pre Reception AM and Reception AM students do not come to school on Friday, May 11. This only applies to the AM classes. Students in the PM sessions have school as normal.

Save the Date - 1:1 Device Parent Info Meetings

Two 1:1 parent info meetings this year will be held on Monday, May 7. The Grade 4 1:1 Laptop parent info session (for current Grade 3 parents) is in the Library Pit from 8am-9am. The Grade 1 1:1 iPad parent info session (for current Prep parents) is in the Library pit from 9am-10am. Invitations have been sent out to parents. Another copy of the letters is available here for Grade 3 parents and here for Prep parents.

Upper School News

OSSD Summer School Programme

CDNIS is offering students the chance to earn formal OSSD Grade 11 and 12 credits through an accelerated Summer School Programme (Math, English, Politics & Science). Students currently in Grades 10 and 11 are eligible to participate. All courses take three weeks and will run from June 12-29. The fee for CDNIS students is HK$13,000. Parents can find more details here and register by clicking here.

Cambridge Summer School

If your child aged 15-18 is free this summer the the Cambridge Summer School may be an excellent option. For more information, including course details and how to sign up, please visit the programme website. Registration is open now and filling up fast!

McGill Summer Academy

For the first time, McGill University will be offering a summer academy outside of Canada. This program offers learning opportunities for students aged 15-19 that foster curiosity about the natural, physical and social phenomena and prepare them for continuing learning at university. Programmes will run from August 1-6 from 9am-3:45pm. BizSmart’s Silicon Valley Entrepreneurship Workshops

Cornell, UChicago visit to CDNIS

Representatives from Cornell University and University of Chicago are coming to CDNIS to meet with interested students and parents. This is a great opportunity to meet directly with two of the top universities in the USA. The visit will take place on Tuesday, May 8 at 9:45am in the US Guidance office (rm.510). Grade 9 - 11 Exam Schedule (May & June 2018)

The Grade 9-11 Final Exam schedule is now available for students and parents to download. Further details about exams, including specific room locations, will be published in May.

University of Sydney Open Day in HK

The University of Sydney is coming to Hong Kong again to host an annual Open Day for interested HK students and parents. The event takes place on Sunday, 6 May from 1pm-4pm at the Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay. For more information and to register, click here

Cornell and UChicago information session

Cornell University and the University of Chicago will hold a public information session on Monday, May 7 from 7pm-8pm (doors will open at 6:30). The event will be held at The University of Chicago Center in Hong Kong, Level 6, Cyberport 2, 100 Cyberport Road. No RSVP is needed.

University of Sydney info session: Digital Sydney

The University of Sydney will offer a public info session covering a broad range of the University's digital fields, including media, communications, contemporary art, digital cultures, design thinking, visual arts, screen arts, photo-media, film and moving image, design computing, interactive design, and music. The session takes place on Thursday, April 26 from 6pm-8pm at 3/F Tower 2, South Seas Centre, 75 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East, Kowloon. Registration here

Grade 12: Grad save the date, updates

Difficult to believe, but the Class of 2018 Graduation is approaching! Grade 12 parents, please save the date of Friday, May 25, and note the new start time this year of 5pm. We will be sending occasional updates regarding Grad Week and preparations leading up to it; these will come to parents' CDNIS email addresses (name@cdnis.hk) so please do keep an eye out for these messages. 

Liberal Arts Colleges visiting Hong Kong

Admission Officers from Bowdoin, Haverford, Vassar, and Wesleyan will be offering a programme highlighting the incredible educational experience offered at a Liberal Arts College. The programme includes presentations from each of the institutions, general information about the selective admission process, the advantages of a liberal arts education in the workforce, and the opportunity to speak with each institution.
